About

Texts From Last Night is a single topic blog that reposts text messages submitted by users. The texts or text conversations are usually short anecdotes involving partying, sexual encounters, or other antics from the night before.

History

Texts From Last Night was created in February of 2009 by Ben Bator and Lauren Leto[1]. The two former Michigan State University students said that they were both dissatisfied with their post-graduate lives, and wanted to make something that would help them to relive the college lifestyle. They decided to use their text conversations as material for the website, even borrowing ones from their friends phones[2]. The duo said they were also inspired by the Kilpatrick and Beatty text-messaging scandal[3] back in 2008, when over 14,000 text messages between Detroit's mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, and his Cheif of Staff were published involving their alleged affair.

Popularity

The site's popularity grew tremendously through the use of Facebook[4] and Twitter[5]. Because of its popularity amongst college students and twenty-somethings, many universities created their own unofficial Texts From Last Night pages, either through Facebook or other sites. In June of 2009, Ben and Lauren were offered a book deal by Gotham Books, and in January of 2010, they published Texts From Last Night: All the Texts No One Remembers Sending[6]. The site was also made into an app for the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry.
