About

SNL's "Domingo" refers to an October 2024 Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch in which the episode's host Ariana Grande and other cast members play bridesmaids at a wedding who sing a song for their friend (the bride) about a man she slept with named Domingo. The song was a parody of Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" with the leading lyrics, "The bridesmaids wanted a celebration. So we took a trip, bachelorette vacation." The song inspired a TikTok trend after the episode aired in which TikTokers lip-dubbed and recreated the original. Others used the "Domingo" lyrics and TikTok sound for memes elsewhere on social media.

Origin

On October 12th, 2024, singer-songwriter Ariana Grande hosted Saturday Night Live. In one sketch, Grande with cast members Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Squirm played bridesmaids at the wedding of a couple played by Chloe Fineman and Andrew Dismukes. The bridesmaids sing a song about a man named Domingo whom the bride slept with on a "bachelorette vacation." The song uses the backing and rhythm of Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso." Domingo is later revealed in the sketch, played by Marcello Hernández.

The sketch was uploaded to YouTube[1] by the official SNL channel on October 13th, titled, "Bridesmaid Speech." Over 12 days, the video gained over 6.1 million views and 135,000 likes (shown below).

Also on October 13th, the official SNL TikTok[2] account posted a clip of the "Domingo" song, gaining over 100 million plays, 11.1 million likes and starting a TikTok sound.[3]

Lyrics

The bridesmaids wanted a celebration.
So we took a trip, bachelorette vacation.
'Cause we know she needs one, a break from Matthew.
Just kidding Matt, we're glad she has you.

We're out the shots are flowin', yeah.
Guys on the dance floor groovin', yeah.
We say, "No, thanks. She's taken," yeah (woo!)

Now she's with a hot guy, but he looks gay, heard his name's Domingo.
Second location, maybe he's bi? Still dancing with Domingo.
Third location, fully straight, fully touchin' Domingo.
"I can't wait to be his wife," she's pointing to Domingo.

In the bathroom, we take her aside,
She says, "Don't worry, we won't cross the line."
"Think of your fiancé." She says, "Good reminder."
Hands me her ring, then we can't find her.

Now we're, back in the house, in the hot tub, she's there with Domingo.
Asks us to leave, get a hotel, she's vibing with Domingo.

At the Marriott, Googling Domingo.
Just to make sure, he's not psycho.
But he's actually a doctor, and randomly a model,
And he volunteers, with weird, sick animals (aw!)

The next day, she said, "Nothing happened."
They talked all night, about you Matthew.
But then at brunch, she just starts crying.
We ask her why, she says, "I'm just so tired."
We say, "Take a nap." She says, "I'm not that kind of tired."

[Domingo]
Hey, Matt. Came all this way, had to explain, direct from Domingo.
Kelsey's a friend, she's like my sis, but we did hook up, though.
