About
Song Request Note is a meme template that uses a viral tweet of an old man offering $100 dollars to a musician to play a song at a show. The tweet immediately became a meme template with the original song being replaced with different meme songs, references to pop culture, and inside jokes for certain communities to enjoy.
Origin
On April 9th, 2022, the Twitter user and musician Tom McGovern tweeted a real life experience that happened to him, in which a man in his 70's walked up to his piano and gave him $100 to play Freebird (Long Version) a song that is notoriously requested at live performances to the point where it became a pre-internet cultural meme and tops out at just over 10 minutes in length. The tweet[1] became viral instantly, and received over 100k likes in 24 hours (shown below).
Spread
A few hours later, early in the morning on April 10th, Twitter user @Zoesontag uploaded a meme template[2] made using the original tweet, allowing various others to create their own examples of what they would like to see requested, earning 4,000 likes in 11 hours (shown below).
Taking immediate advantage of the new template, fellow Twitter user @eSpotPod made a meme[3] using the template which asked for the song Ja Ja Ding Dong to be played, which is a satirical song made for the Will Ferrel Eurovision movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, earning 270 likes in 10 hours (shown below).
