About

Sprite Cranberry Cult is a TikTok cult comprised of TikTokers with a can of Sprite Cranberry as their profile picture (PFP) in reference to the Christmas themed LeBron James commercial and its memes. The trend started in August 2023, inspiring many to join the cult, change their profile pictures and post Sprite Cranberry memes ironically based on the time gap until the actual holiday season.

Origin

On August 21st, 2023, TikToker^[1] @sprite_cranberry_100 posted a photo slideshow that used the audio from the Sprite Cranberry commercial and acted as a "countdown" with "56 days left," gaining roughly 4.6 million plays and 806,200 likes in one week (recording shown below, left). On August 24th, TikToker^[2] @sprite_cranberry_100 posted a slideshow that asked their followers to join the "SPRITE CRANBERRY ARMY" and save a photo of a can of the soda, gaining roughly 340 likes in five days (recording shown below, right).

On August 27th, 2023, TikToker^[3] @accountx_d posted a slideshow that officially started the Sprite Cranberry Cult, laying down the rules of the cult, including the Sprite Cranberry can profile picture. Over the course of two days, the video slideshow received roughly 329,500 plays and 28,500 likes (recording shown below).

Soon after the virality of TikToker^[3] @accountx_d's slideshow, the Sprite Cranberry Cult gained mass adoption and content. For instance, on August 28th, 2023, TikToker^[4] @duro_gta posted a video related to the cult, gaining roughly 156,300 plays and 12,200 likes in one day (shown below, left). Also on August 28th, TikToker^[5] @dylansalt._ posted a recording of a "Tonight we steal the moon" Minions slideshow, gaining roughly 524,700 plays and 45,400 likes in one day (shown below, right).

Notable influencers on the app started to join and make videos about the cult, such as TikToker^[6] @baldentertainmentnetwork on August 28th, 2023, gaining roughly 41,700 plays and 2,000 likes in a day (shown below, left). Humorous backlash about the cult also surfaced, evident in a video posted by TikToker^[7] @fw.femto on August 28th, which called the cult NPCs with the Dance If You're an NPC format, gaining roughly 41,200 plays and 3,800 likes in one day (shown below, right).
