Stardenburdenhardenbart is a made-up German word popularized in a video about how to call cats in different languages. The word became popular on TikTok in videos of people trying to attract a cat.

Origin

On July 9th, 2020, TikTok[1] user @g.catt.eng uploaded a video of himself trying to attract a cat by calling it in various languages. When he uses the German word "Stardenburdenhardenbart," which is made up, the cat suddenly looks at him, and he claims "German always works." The video received more than 700,000 views in four years (shown below).

Over the following years, the clip and its audio grew popular as similar content was posted on the app. For example, on July 12th, 2020, TikTok[2] user @timmeowy uploaded a video mimicking @g.catt.eng's by saying "Stardenburdenhardenbart" to his cat, causing the cat to look at the camera. The video received more than 4.3 million views in four years (shown below, left). On September 17th, 2021, TikTok[3] user @viralwhiskers uploaded a similar video and received more than 2.5 million views in three years (shown below, right).

On February 5th, 2021, TikTok[4] user @ejaaak15 uploaded a Stitch in which he tried to attract his cat by saying "Stardenburdenhardenbart" but it didn't work. The video received more than 1.5 million views in three years (shown below, left). On May 7th, 2023, TikTok[5] user @w3r.o2 uploaded a video that received more than 15.4 million views in one year (shown below, right).
