About
BlazBlue is a series of fighting games developed and published in Japan by Arc System Works, and later localized in North America by Aksys Games and in Europe by Zen United. An anime adaptation by Studio teamKG and Hoods Entertainment aired in the fall of 2013.
Premise
Long ago, a terrible monster called "The Black Beast" appeared and began destroying everything in its path, spreading a toxic substance called "seithr" across the planet and threatening to destroy the Earth. Humanity was on the verge of extinction when a group known as the Six Heroes arose and developed weapons to fight the Black Beast: the "Armagus", an artificial form of magic powered by seithr that anyone could use. With humanity empowered by the Armagus, the Black Beast was defeated and the Six Heroes disappeared into history. This event became known as the "First War of Magic".
Humanity began reconstruction in low-seithr areas and formed the Novus Orbis Librarium note (otherwise known as the N.O.L. or "The Library") to govern the world and the grimoires that controlled the Armagus. However, the N.O.L. quickly grew into The Empire and began to abuse their power.
In the year 2199, several branches of the N.O.L. are suddenly destroyed by a man known only as "Ragna the Bloodedge". Wielding a powerful Armagus called the Azure Grimoire, he declares the start of a one-man war against the N.O.L. and their tyrannical grip on the world. In retaliation, the N.O.L. imposes the largest bounty in history to anyone who kills him.
As news spreads that Ragna has arrived at the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi, a ragtag bunch of N.O.L. operatives, bounty hunters and vigilantes descend upon the city, each one seeking out Ragna for their own purpose. Meanwhile, Ragna heads for the dark secret lurking in the centre of Kagutsuchi, a single purpose resting in his heart.
History
BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger was released in arcades on November 19, 2008 in Japan and November 20, 2008 in North America. It was later ported to Xbox 360 and PS3 on June 25, 2009 and June 30, 2009 in their respected regions. The game uses a 4 button system: Weak Attack (A), Medium Attack (B), Strong Attack (C), and a unique Drive Attack (D) for each character. The sequel, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift was released in arcades on November 20, 2009. It received a console port to Xbox 360 and PS3 on July 1, 2010 and on July 27, 2010. It received two additional releases, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II and BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend. The third game in the entry was called BlazBlue Chronophantasma, alongside it's second installment, BlazBlue Chronophantasma Extend. The final game in the series is BlazBlue: Centralfiction. Arcsys has stated that they will focus more on updating the game regularly instead of creating different versions, and thus so far we have gotten a CF2.0, which wasn't an extend, but an update.
