About
Brawl In The Family (BitF) is a webcomic series based on the Nintendo fighting game series Super Smash Brothers.
History
BitF[1] was launched by artist Matthew Taranto on June 13th, 2008. The first comic in the series was titled "The Showdown,"[2] and featured a battle between the video game characters King Dedede and Kirby (shown below). Over the next six years, over 550 comics were posted on the site
Online Presence
On January 14th, 2010, a "BrawlintheFamily" YouTube channel was launched, featuring narrated slideshows of the comics and songs.
In March, the #BitF Twitter[4] feed was created, garnering upwards of 1,500 followers in the next four years. On May 9th, 2011, a Facebook[8] page titled "Brawl in the Family" was launched. On February 16th, 2014, BitF was featured in weekly roundup of webcomics on the video game news site Kotaku.[5] On July 13th, 2014, a BitF comic was highlighted on the Cheezburger site Memebase,[7] where it received more than 2,000 upvotes in the first 72 hours (shown below).
Kickstarter Campaign
On June 3rd, 2012, Taranto launched a Kickstarter[6] campaign to fund a BitF book. By August 1st, the campaign was funded with over $56,000 of its $10,000 goal.
Highlights
Waluigi Time
On April 1st, 2009, BitF[9] featured a comic with the character Waluigi saying the phrase "Waluigi Time!," which subsequently became a popular catchphrase associated with the comic series (shown below).
Eario
Eario is a fanon original character introduced in the BitF comic "Janitor of the Mushroom Kingdom (Part 1)" on September 14th, 2010. Eario subsequently became a popular character in the series and has had numerous fan arts submitted to DeviantArt.
Holy Smokes You're Hired
Holy Smokes You're Hired is a reaction face used across the internet, it was quote by King Dedede said in Comic #229.
The End Of Bitf
On July 25, 2014, Matthew Taranto announced that the comic would be ending, It has been six years since he has been doing the comic. In a result to this, people have flamed and felt sad that the comic would be ending.
