Ghetto Smosh is a sketch comedy YouTube channel that is a parody of Smosh, rehashing and dubbing over their videos. The videos, inspired by the Xanification iFunny trend, reimagine Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox of Smosh as two drug addicts living in a ghetto, with other characters also making appearances.

History

On February 19th, 2022, the Ghetto Smash YouTube[1] channel and other social media accounts were created. On the same day, the Ghetto Smash Instagram[2] account posted a teaser video that received over 160 likes and 1,000 views in seven months. On March 8th, 2022, Ghetto Smosh uploaded[3] its first full video, titled "GHETTO GAMER GETS MESSED WITH," a sketch based on Smosh's 2012 video "HOW TO ANNOY A GAMER." The video introduced Antwon Rodriguez and Ghetto Ian, "ghetto" versions of Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, and received over 70,000 views in six months (shown below).

Shut yo bitch ass up!

In the following months, Ghetto Smosh posted multiple redubbed and re-edited versions of well-known Smosh videos, introducing more parody characters, such as Ghetto Gamer, Charlie the Stoned Ass Guinea Pig and Weed Stealing Moon. For example, on June 8th, 2022, Ghetto Smosh uploaded[4] "ASSASSIN'S WEED RAP!!! – Music Video," a parody of Smosh's "Assassin's Creed 3 Song" that gained over 97,000 views in three months (shown below, left). On July 1st, Ghetto Smosh posted[5] "PERC 30 DISASTER!!!," a parody of "SMOSH VS ZOMBIES," which received over 134,000 views in two months (shown below, right).

Precursor

The Ghetto Smosh channel likely drew inspiration from the Xanification iFunny trend that initially involved editing various characters as drug addicts, later evolving into the "X Smokes Weed" series of memes by iFunnier and YouTuber Colaws.

In addition to YouTube uploads, Ghetto Smosh has also maintained an active presence on Twitter,[6] iFunny[7] and Instagram,[8] with several of its shitposts going viral on Twitter in September 2022. For example, On September 11th, 2022, @GhettoSmosh shared[9] a longpost meme about 9/11 unfolding in Fortnite, with the first tweet gaining over 7,500 retweets and 80,800 likes in one week. Later that day, @GhettoSmosh then tweeted[10] a meme that gained over 1,800 retweets and 28,600 likes in the same period (shown below, left). On September 12th, @GhettoSmosh made a tweet[11] that gained over 860 retweets and 13,000 likes in a week (shown below, right).
