How to Train Your Dragon is a series of children's books written by Cassandra Cowell. Initially published in 2003, the first book was adapted into a 2010 CGI children's film produced by DreamWorks Animation, which centers around Hiccup, the son of the Viking chief Stoick the Vast, who meets a dragon named Toothless. The film proved to be a critical and financial success, leading to the creation of two sequels.
History
On March 28th, 2010, the film How to Train Your Dragon was released in the United States.[1] The film was written and directed by Dean DeBlois.
The film was a critical and financial success, gaining $494,878,759 worldwide.[5] It was also nominated for Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The film scored a 74/100 on Metacritic.[6]
How to Train Your Dragon 2
How to Train Your Dragon 2 was released on June 13th, 2014. In this film, Hiccup and Toothless discover a secret cave that houses hundreds of wild dragons -- and a mysterious dragon rider who turns out to be Hiccup's long-lost mother, Valka. Hiccup and Toothless then find themselves at the center of a battle to protect Berk from a power-hungry warrior named Drago. The film gained over $618.9 million worldwide,[7] and was also a critical success, gaining a 76/100 on Metacritic.[8] It was also nominated for the Best Animated Feature Academy Award.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
The third film in the series, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, will be released on March 1st 2019. In the film, Hiccup becomes Chief of Berk, while the sudden discovery of a wild, elusive mate lures Toothless away. Early reviews for the film were positive, and as of February 22nd, 2019, the film has a score of 72/100 on Metacritic.[9]
