Killer Bean is an upcoming third-person shooter roguelike video game based on the film of the same name which follows the story of anthropomorphic assassin coffee bean Killer Bean. Developed by the creator of Killer Bean animator Jeff Lew, the game is scheduled for an early access release in the summer of 2024.

History

On August 19th, 2021, Jeff Lew, the creator and sole animator of the Killer Bean short films and the 2008 feature film about an anthropomorphic bean assassin by the name of Killer Bean, announced an upcoming indie game about the character,^[1] developed by Jeff Lew under the company name Killer Bean Studios LLC.

In the following months, Jeff Lew shared gameplay GIFs and videos, showcasing the development of the third-person shooter roguelike game.^[2][3]

On August 19th, 2023, the announcement trailer for the game premiered on X^[4] and YouTube,^[5] accumulating over 10.3 million views and 4.2 million views in ten months, respectively (shown below).

On June 7th, 2024, the second trailer for the game premiered at the Summer Game Fest^[6] (shown below).

The June 7th, 2024, showcase of the game at the Summer Game Fest event was followed by a surge of interest in the game online, with users sharing and posting reactions and memes on social media.

For example, on June 7th, 2024, X^[7] user @elysycc posted a Y'all Got Any Fun meme about the game that received over 1,400 reposts and 14,000 likes in one day (shown below, left). Later that day, X^[8] user @ShitpostRock reacted to the announcement by quote-posting the trailer and commenting, "I AM HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT GAMING IS BACK." The post (shown below, right) received over 780 reposts and 10,000 likes in one day.
