About

Saki Sanobashi is a supposedly lost horror anime about the violent deaths of girls trapped in a bathroom. Since it was brought up in a forum post in 2015, other users have described seeing something similar, leading to a quest to find this supposed lost anime.

History

On February 21st, 2015, a user of 4chan's /x/ (Paranormal) board described having watched a strange and violent anime named "Go for a Punch".[1]

Some weird anime about naked girls stuck in a large bathroom without doors, having a philosophical debate about never getting out of the room. After losing hope and starving for some days everything goes downhill.
They just start screaming and yelling.
Then they all commit suicide, either by smashing their heads on the floor or scratching their necks to bloody pieces

Another user asked the /a/ (Anime) board if they knew about it and was told that the title might be Saki Sanobashi. Most people thereafter used this name for the mystery anime.

Spread

Over the following several years, fans of the story began a hunt for the supposed lost anime. This led to a challenging hunt, as some users would muddy the search with misinformation and false leads. On November 22nd, 2019, Justin Whang released his first of two videos covering the subject so far, detailing the search and numerous dead-ends the search turned up (shown below, left). He posted a second video on December 13th of that year, explaining how his first video injected chaos into the search (shown below, right).

In January of 2020, an anonymous Reddit user claimed to have authored the original 4chan post as a joke.[2]

In September 2020, Reddit user Chris_Able reported that Dark Anime host TwistedAnger had sent him a copy of a webpage that listed a 1986 anime named "Go for a Punch" with a description closely matching that of the original 4chan post, and which predated the 4chan post by several years.[3] Other Reddit users accused Chris_Able of forging the page, noting a similar HTML coding style and grammar errors.[6]

As of November 2020, /r/SakiSanobashi[5] has over 4,500 subscribers, though the subreddit's title reads, "Subreddit dedicated to finding the infamous 'Go For a Punch'/'Saki Sanobashi', a lost ero-guro anime that does not exist."
