The original scene that the meme is pulled from comes from two different photos taken some time in 2012 during the filming of Don Jon, which was released on September 27th, 2013 (seen below).

The original posting of these photos online is unknown, but the first time it’s used as a meme format comes from a post by Redditor^[1] hctiks to the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit on September 10th, 2020, where it accumulated more than 12,100 upvotes, 338 comments and several Reddit awards in five days (shown below).

Another variant was posted that same day to the /r/dankmemes sub by Redditor^[3] 2kuul4youuu (seen below, right), receiving nearly 20,000 upvotes, 183 comments and several Reddit awards in five days.

On September 12th, Redditor^[4] Tsun_Loki posted a version to the /r/Wholesomememes sub (shown below, left), accumulating more than 9,600 upvotes, 118 comments and several Reddit awards in roughly three days. On September 13th, Imgur^[5] user Lanhdanan uploaded another meme to the site (shown below, right), accumulating nearly 4,000 likes and 400 comments in 48 hours.

On September 13th, Redditor^[6] Solid_Snark posted a photoshopped variant of the meme depicting Ahsoka from the Clone Wars TV show to the /r/PrequelMemes sub (seen below), receiving over 25,000 upvotes, 170 comments and several Reddit awards in roughly 24 hours.
