About
Sweating Man refers to a reaction image of a bespectacled man smiling. The photograph, however, was taken, reportedly, in the rain, making the man appear to be sweating. As a result, the image became a popular reaction to hiding guilt or a secret about to be exposed.
Origin
On August 1st, 2018, Redditor [1] itsmelen published an image of a man wearing glasses and smiling on the /r/mildlyinteresting subreddit. They titled the thread, "The morning rain makes it seem as though the guy in this ad is sweating profusely." Within one week, the post (shown below) received more than 91,000 points (90% upvoted) and 1,300 comments.
Spread
That day, an anonymous 9GAG [2] user posted the image with the caption "'Ah! I see you wrote down 'Proficient in Excel' on your resume. Tell me what you can do.'" The post (shown below, left) received more than 15 points.
Additionally, on August 1st, Redditor[3] beerad3235 posted the image on the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit. The image was captioned "When your dad is about to open your 84gb 'homework' folder." The post (shown below, center) received more than 14,000 points (93% upvoted) and 1,100 comments.
The following day, Redditor[4] the_vermi posted an image macro in the /r/reactionpics subreddit. The post (shown below, right) was captioned "Porn? What's that?"
