Sweaty Elvis is a photograph that was leaked from the set of the 2022 movie Elvis that depicted actor Austin Butler as Elvis Presley in 1977, looking sweaty and confused, resembling a wax figure. The photo was posted to Twitter in mid-2022 and quickly became an exploitable image macro paired with various captions.

Origin

On June 29th, 2022, the Twitter^[1] account AButlerNews posted two photographs of Austin Butler behind the scenes of Elvis (2022). In the photos, Elvis is portrayed as sweaty, stern and uncanny, also wearing a white-and-gold blazer with chains and necklaces. Over the course of two days, the tweet and photographs received roughly 2,200 likes (shown below).

People online such as Twitter^[2] user wixiwerehere remarked that 1977 was "meant to be a representation of his failing health at the end of his life/residency in vegas." Through the make-up, costuming and expression, this was evident and subsequently turned the photograph into an image macro and reaction image.

For instance, on June 30th, 2022, Twitter^[3] user duddersj posted a quote retweet reading, "we now know how elvis would’ve looked if he was on hot ones," earning roughly 43,300 likes in one day (shown below).

Inspired by duddersj's QT, Twitter^[4] user StolenDans posted a QT on July 1st that photoshopped Sweaty Elvis into an episode of Hot Ones, earning roughly 4,800 likes in less than a day (shown below, left). Additionally, others offered their own reactions and captions for Sweaty Elvis inspired by duddersj's QT. For instance, on June 30th, Twitter^[5] user poop_economy captioned it, "me after a hefty dab," earning roughly 2,900 likes in one day (shown below, right).
