The 80s Were Bad to the Bone is a meme trend including Accuracy Reenactment videos, lip dubs and more based on the opening scene of Talking Friends episode 10, in which Talking Angela asks the other characters, "What was the best decade to live in?" and Talking Tom answers, "The 80s were bad to the bone," then imitates the 1982 song "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood & The Destroyers.

The episode was released on August 31st, 2012, and the scene resurfaced and went viral on TikTok in early July 2026. It became the subject of memes that month, including memes where users lip dub to the sound and recreate and reference it in a variety of ways.

Origin

On August 31st, 2012, the 10th episode of Talking Friends, a series based on the Talking Tom app characters, was released on Disney's YouTube channel. It was privatized or removed at a later date, and reuploaded by YouTuber^[1] LazyTownStingyTheVideoEditor2026_HD in October 2024 to over 224,000 views in two years.

The episode begins with Talking Angela asking the other characters what they think is the best decade to live in. Each character gives their answer one at a time, and Talking Tom says, "The 80s were bad to the bone! B-b-b-b-b-bad," referencing the song "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood & The Destroyers.

On July 2nd, 2026, TikToker^[2] @lukerowhite posted the opening scene of the episode with the overlaid caption, "New meme the 80s were bad to the bone," garnering over 1.7 million views in a week.

On July 6th, TikToker^[4] @maddy.spams329 posted a video where they recreate the scene using Talking Friends toys, garnering over 1.1 million views in three days.

On July 8th, 2026, TikToker^[5] @nikolaosbarnjak posted a video where he does impressions of all the characters in the scene, garnering over 425,000 views in a day.
