The Birds Work for the Bourgeoise is a satirical conspiracy theory copypasta related to Birds Aren't Real that states "All of the birds died in 1986 due to Reagan killing them, and replacing them with spies that are now watching us. The birds work for the Bourgeoisie." The copypasta originated in July 2019 when comedian Kendrick Smith announced the statement through a megaphone in a TikTok video.
Origin
On July 7th, 2019, TikTok user @slymcooper reposted his original video of Kendrick Smith[1] after it was deleted (shown below). The repost gained over 78,000 likes and 10,200 shares in a month.

Spread
In early July, Redditors began copying the statement into r/copypasta[2]. On July 7th, 2019, TikTok users began using the audio from @slycooper's video in TikTok videos of animations and drawings of birds with the text "The Birds work for the Bourgeoisie" (shown below). The video's uploaded by @maddieharlol and @tootmcnooty gained over 25,700 likes and 145,300 likes respectively in a month.

On July 12th, 2019, Redditor AWhole2Marijuanas posted an image using the text to r/HomeDepot[3] (shown below, left). The image gained over 200 points (97% upvoted) in a month. On July 15th, Redditor yourevalid uploaded a screenshot of someone texting the copypasta to r/cursedtexts[4] (shown below, right).
