The Woman Was Too Stunned To Speak is a TikTok sound of an Asian woman being shocked while the camera is capturing all types of angles of her reaction while a narrator says "the woman was too stunned to speak." The sound became popular around October 2021, inspiring comedy skits and lip-sync videos about being stunned or surprised.
Origin
The original video of "The Woman Was Too Stunned To Speak" is a reenactment of a true crime of a woman who had her necklace stolen while walking down the street. The episode was televised on the Singaporean docuseries Crimewatch in 1998, but it resurfaced on June 17th, 2021, TikTok[1] user @jeronpang posted the earliest known clip (shown below) featuring "The Woman Was Too Stunned To Speak" sound, which amassed over 499,000 plays and 65,000 likes in two years. However, the most popular video of the trend was posted by TikTok[2] user @_dominikxcx on October 31st, 2021, which has accumulated over 92,000 other videos using the sound on the platform.

A full version of the scene was posted on April 8th, 2022, by YouTube[3] user @rbtownentertainment8411. The video (shown below) received roughly 70,000 views and 2,300 likes in a year.

After the clip went viral on TikTok, people started to use the audio to showcase moments in life that left them completely speechless or surprised. For instance, on November 7th, 2021, TikTok[[4] user @imcodyjacob posted a skit using the audio paired with the overlay text "When I googled my biological father's name to see if he was still alive and found his arrest record for the attempted murder of ME." The post (shown below. left) garnered over 4.4 million plays and 1 million likes in two years. On November 12th, 2021, TikTok[5] user @circlehoe posted a video with the overlay text "When I finally realized I wasn't asexual, everyone in my hometown was just ugly," which amassed over 3.2 million plays and 1.1 million likes in two years.
