Thick Thighs Save Lives, sometimes abbreviated as TTSL, is a catchphrase typically used in praise of women with voluptuous figures, who are often referred to as "thicc". Online, the rhyming slogan is often paired with the phrase "but thigh highs are my demise."

Origin

On December 19th, 2011, the health blog BlackDoctor.org[6] published an article about the health implications of having large thighs titled "Thick Thighs Save Lives: Why Bigger Thighs Are Healthier (Seriously!)".

Spread

On September 23rd, 2014, Urban Dictionary user Luna_lolita submitted an entry for the abbreviation "TTSL," defining it as "thigh thighs save lives" (shown below).

In July 2016, Tumblr[1] user adultures published a webcomic in which the Overwatch character Reaper tells the character Mercy "thick thighs save lives" (shown below).

REAPER WHAT THE F--- HEARD MERCV?

On October 19th, the SELF YouTube channel uploaded an interview with model Ashley Graham titled "Thick Thighs Save Lives" (shown below). Within two years, the video gained over 670,000 views and 760 comments.

On November 7th, Redditor patch_7-8-9 submitted a picture of an anime girl wearing thigh high stockings with the caption "thick thighs save lives / but thigh highs are my demise." Prior to being archived, the post gained over 450 points (97% upvoted) on /r/animemes.[2] On December 1st, YouTuber AngelMelly uploaded a video titled "Thick Thighs Save Lives" (shown below).

On July 17th, a Satania-themed photoshop featuring a Miss Kobayahi's Dragon Maid-themed "thick thighs save lives" badge was submitted to the /r/animemes subreddit (shown below, left). On December 24th, Redditor badooga1 submitted a Buffsuki photoshop of the Doki Doki Literature Club character Natsuki titled "Thicc thighs save lives" to /r/DDLC (shown below, right).

Gonna get destroyed for saying this.

I love a good pair of thighs as much as the next guy, but I find INSANELY fat thighs to be really unattractive.

I like my girls (and certain feminine males) thighs to be proportionate.

In other words. Thicc Thighs do Save Lives. But Too Thicc and I'll want to Die.
