Tom Scott Chokes On Vape refers to a clip of educational YouTuber Tom Scott using a vape pen and then coughing violently. It has been frequently used as a target for video remixes.

Origin

On Febuary 15th, 2021, Tom Scott uploaded a video titled "YouTubers have to declare ads. Why doesn't anyone else?" wherein he discusses advertising laws and how they apply. The video gained 4,500,000 views in six months.^[1] At 11:46 in the video, Tom uses a vape pen while talking about how DJ Khaled advertises vaping in his "I'm The One" music video. After doing so, he immediately begins coughing violently (shown below, left). The 13-second clip was soon extracted from the 31-minute video and uploaded to YouTube on the same day by user Oathbound. The video gained 2,000,000 views in six months (shown below, right).^[2]

Several more instances followed in the coming days, many of them being remixes. Garbage Memes uploaded a Minecraft edit on Febuary 16th, 2021, gaining over 8,600 views (shown below, left). User August Breaks uploaded a video where Tom disintegrates on Febuary 19th, gaining over 1 million views (shown below, right).

Streamer xQc reacted to the video in the coming days, and laughed hysterically at the vaping scene (shown below, left). On Febuary 22nd, a meme complilation video was uploaded (shown below, right).
