We Dem Boyz is a song by the American hip-hop artist Wiz Khalifa. Online, the song has been subject to multiple parodies and usage in Vines, where it is often used to indicate that one is hanging out with one's friends.

Origin

The song came from Wiz Khalifa's fifth studio album, Blacc Hollywood, and was released as a single on February 11, 2014[1]. The video for the song was released on April 14, 2014 and as of March 2016, the video has over 100 million views. The song was nominated for the Grammy Award for "Best Rap Song" and reached peak chart positions of 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and 4 on the Hot Rap Songs chart.[4]

On March 1st, 2014, the first parody version, which was recorded by a YouTube account that only makes Alvin and the Chipmunks style parodies of popular songs, recorded and posted a version of "We Dem Boyz," which received over 43,000 views.

Other typical parodies followed. On June 18, 2014, a parody of the song was uploaded to Youtube by user Baby Kanine, titled "Hold Up I Need a Donut" and on August 12, 2014, another parody of the song was uploaded by user bigjimmyhickhop titled "We Dem Hickz".

The song became associated with the American Football team the Dallas Cowboys, with many song tributes and an associated hashtag, #wedemboys, often being used in posts about the Cowboys on Twitter and Vine.

On Vine, Twitter, and Tumblr, the hashtag #wedemboyz is also used in posts referencing the original poster's personal group of friends. On Vine, there are over 500 posts for the hashtag, which is the maximum the app displays for a hashtag.[5] In addition, there are thousands of posts on Twitter and Tumblr. On Facebook, the hashtag #wedemboys has been searched for over 93,000 times.
