We Look So Much Like a Couple Here or A Couple of Bestiesss is a series of memes, including redraws, based on a viral Facebook post where one user posted a photograph of themselves posing with a friend of the opposite sex, the male friend commenting, "We look so much like a couple here" and the female friend replying, "a couple of bestiesss," suggesting the man has been friendzoned. The meme was originally posted online as early as 2016 and became the subject of memes over the following years.
Origin
On November 21st, 2016, X[1] user @FootyAccums posted a screenshot of a Facebook post showing a pair of comments under a photo of a man and woman posing together. The first comment by the man in the photo reads, "We look so much like a couple here." The second comment from the woman then says, "A couple of bestiesss." The screenshot was originally posted earlier by X user @MasaiLincoln, but appears to have been removed.
Spread
The post gained viral spread over the following years, inspiring variations including redraws and memes where a new photo is placed over the same comments. On July 28th, 2017, the original meme was posted to /r/sadcringe,[2] garnering over 30,000 upvotes in seven years.
On January 20th, 2018, the Facebook[3] page Game Of Laughs posted a version of the meme referencing Game of Thrones, garnering over 10,000 reactions and 1,900 shares in six years (shown below, left). On August 28th, 2020, a redraw of the meme was posted to /r/danganronpa,[4] which gained over 7,000 upvotes in four years (shown below, right).
On October 13th, 2023, the Facebook[5] page Movie Cucks posted a version of the meme referencing Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's relationship, garnering over 6,800 shares and 85,000 reactions in eight months (shown below, left). On June 10th, 2024, X[6] user @xochibunsai posted a redraw of the meme referencing PaRappa the Rapper, garnering over 9,900 likes in a day (shown below, right).
