Sad Will Smith / Entanglement is a reaction image macro series based on a screenshot of actor Will Smith during a discussion about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's relationship with singer August Alsina on her Facebook talk show "Red Table Talk". Pinkett Smith refers to her relationship with Alsina as her "entanglement," which became the subject of numerous jokes on social media.
Origin
On July 10th, 2020, Red Table Talk published a video conversation between Will and Jada Pinkett Smith about rumors regarding their marriage and her relationship with singer August Alsina. Within 24 hours, the video received more than 4 million views, 164,000 reactions, 163,000 shares and 74,000 comments (shown below).
Of the relationship, Jada Pinkett Smith tells Smith in the video that she "got into entanglement with August."

Following the release of the video, many used the image of Will Smith looking distraught to mock the situation as well as express other feelings of dejection. For example, Twitter[1] user @Whereisblockaye tweeted the image with military fatigues edited onto Will Smith and the caption, "When you come home from a 9 month long deployment and your girl is 6 months pregnant." The post received more than 21,000 likes and 2,200 retweets in less than one week (shown below, left).
Comedy writer Ziwe Fumudoh tweeted[2] the image with the caption, "me when I reply to an email saying 'no worries.'" The tweet received more than 48,000 likes and 6,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below, center).
Artist Adam the Creator edited the Sad Will Smith meme onto the image of Will Smith as the Genie from the 2019 film Aladdin. When shared to Instagram,[3] the image received more than 28,000 likes in less than two days (shown below, right).
On July 11th, YouTuber iMarkkeyz shared a video remix of Jada Pinkett Smith saying "entanglement." The post received more than 61,000 views in less than one week (shown below).
