Origin
In the Making Of featurette on Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny, Jack Black is talking to Dave Grohl, dressed as Satan, who tells him, "Well, I just wanna say I'm a huge fan" (shown below). It was posted to YouTube on September 23rd, 2017 by Tenacious Defense.
Spread
On June 21st, 2020, Redditor slow_damage[1] posted the moment as a reaction image in /r/dankmemes to the idea of Hitler arriving in hell, gaining over 22,000 points (shown below, left). The format began to trend on Reddit over the following week. On June 29th, 2020, Redditor DaddyLordAndrew[2] used the reaction in /r/memes with an image of a child playing Resident Evil 7, gaining over 39,000 points.
The trend also spread on iFunny. On June 23rd, user TitWizzard[3] posted an example that gained over 57,000 likes (shown below, left). On June 28th, user ZER0K00L[4] posted another example (shown below, right).
