What's Your Job on the Leftist Commune? refers to a trend originating on Twitter where users hypothesize on what their job might be on a "leftist commune" following a left-wing revolution. The trend first began in late 2020, and inspired a number of optimistic replies to the tweet where users shared what their ideal jobwouldbe, spreading as a trend over the course of the year. The trend inspired criticism for its general message about leftist revolution and its over-optimism and inspired memes comparing the leftist commune to historical examples of communist societies, shutting down ideas of having ideal jobs with more labor intensive jobs.

On December 20th, 2020, now-suspended Twitter[3] user @_jadeisabelle made a post reading, "whats your job on the leftist commune?? im gonna be leading discussion on theory some days, making clothes from scraps other days, and making lattes whenever needed" (shown below).

The tweet inspired many others to optimistically share what their job might be at the leftist commune, mainly in reply to the original tweet (examples shown below). The post also inspired a lot of ironic and mocking posts. On December 21st, Twitter[4] user @DominicLawson posted, "Me and the boys are going to be rounding up free thinkers and dissenters most days and guarding the gulags the rest, honest work Smiling face."

On December 22nd, an anonymous user of 4chan's[1] politically incorrect board posted a screenshot of @_jadeisabelle's tweet with the text, "So, what would your job be on the leftist commune, /pol/?" The thread inspired over 370 responses, many sharing additional tweets from the thread and mocking it, inspiring replies like "I would be the local racist preacher, standing on the corner spewing racist bile at all the leftist people." Various comments from the thread were collected and uploaded to Know Your Meme on July 26th, 2021 (shown below, click to expand).

Just goes to show how many of these wannabe Twitter revolutionaries are just overly-idealistic, sheltered individuals with little understanding on the realities of organisation and economics. None of them want to do any of the essential hard stuff, they just want utopia.
