About

"Why Is No One Having A Good Time? I Specifically Requested It" is a quote from TV series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It is frequently used as a reaction image for when a person or entity fails to create a pleasurable situation, often owing to their own ignorance around the affected people's interests.

Origin

The quote originates from The Night Shift, the 4th episode of the 4th season of the show, which aired on October 11th, 2016. In the scene in question, Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) is trying to cheer up his colleagues with a dull makeshift party, visibly failing to impress anyone. It was uploaded to YouTube [1] by the show itself as a highlight, gaining 83,000 views in five years.

The scene became a meme format a year later, with instances recorded as early as 2017, with a dead link on Tineye being traced to December 23rd, 2017. The first known surviving example of the meme was posted to the subreddit r/brooklynninenine[2] on October 1st, 2018, as a Tumblr screenshot of Tumblr user astrollusion. The post gained 30,100 points in six months.
