Wonderhoy is a greeting catchphrase of Emu Otori from Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. The line is part of the character's infamous introduction and has been used in popular memes and edits related to her.

Origin

In her introduction in the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage game, Emu Otori greets the player by saying わんだほーいっ, written as "wandahoi" and translated as "wonderhoy" in the English version of the game. The clip of the greeting was uploaded by the official YouTube[1] channel SEGA feat. HATSUNE MIKU Project on March 30th, 2020, six months before the game was released on September 30th (shown below).

In the 2020s, Emu's greeting became a popular inspiration for video edits related to her. For example, on January 27th, 2022, YouTube[2] user Sinper625 uploaded a Toddroll edit and received more than 246,000 views in two years (shown below, left). On April 14th, 2022, YouTube[3] user iMAGiNARY ViNCENT uploaded a clip from the game of Emu explaining "how to wonderhoy" to Saki. The video received more than 422,000 views in two years (shown below, right).

On July 24th, 2022, TikTok[4] user @reoorereooe uploaded a "Hello I'm Emu Otori" edit in which Emu is in a room full of her stickers saying "wonderhoy." The video received more than 840,000 views in two years (shown below, left). On October 23rd, 2023, TikTok[5] user @propronounciation uploaded a video of himself trying to pronounce "wonderhoy." The video received more than 3.8 million views in three months (shown below, right).
