The Woopsi Emoji or the Holding Panties Emoji is a non-Unicode Emoji resembling a woman with a pair of pink panties hanging off her thumb as if she just removed them or is about to toss them at someone. The Emoji first appeared online as early as 2020 and saw use as a reaction image over the following years, also becoming the subject of memes. The Emoji is most often used to denote sexual attraction towards someone.

Origin

It is unclear who made the Woopsi Emoji or where it was first uploaded. On October 9th, 2020, X^[1] user @lasuciamya posted the Emoji alongside a screenshot of a sexual text message, gaining no interactions in four years. This is the earliest known use of the meme but is unlikely to be the source of the Emoji.

Spread

The meme gained viral spread over the following years as a reaction image, typically used to denote sexual attraction. On October 15th, 2021, X^[2] user @arsenicsart posted the Emoji under the caption, "Theo from You season 3 I'm looking right at you," garnering over 880 likes in three years.

On January 16th, 2022, X^[3] user @blknpetty posted the meme alongside a caption referencing the show Euphoria, garnering over 15,000 likes in two years.

On June 19th, 2023, X^[4] user @abeecdefme posted the Emoji under the caption, "men with tattoos," garnering over 38,000 likes in a year. On June 24th, X^[5] user @whotfisjovana posted the meme under the caption, "when he remembers tiny details about myself and my food orders/preferences," garnering over 23,000 likes in the same span of time.

On August 27th, 2024, X^[6] user @invis4yo posted the meme under the caption, "when he gives you updates on his day without you asking," garnering over 64,000 likes in a month.

On September 11th, X^[7] user @tonyhawktruther posted the Emoji, writing, "We need a male version of this image with some raggedy old plaid boxers," garnering over 231,000 likes in two days. Later that day, X^[8] user @waxmittert posted a male version of the Emoji holding boxers, garnering over 70,000 likes in the same span of time.

On September 12th, 2024, X^[9] user @CaeDios posted another version of the meme featuring SpongeBob SquarePants holding boxers on his thumb, garnering over 4,500 likes in a day.
