Yoda Crawling Through Electrical Vent or simply Yoda Crawling refers to a scene from Star Wars: Episode III β Revenge of the Sith where Yoda crawls through a vent filled with electrical wires and paneling to escape from Emperor Sidious into exile. The scene became the subject of memes including shitposts and image macros around 2018.
Origin
On May 15th, 2005, Star Wars: Episode III β Revenge of the Sith premiered. During the film's climax, Yoda crawls through a vent to escape into exile, planning to come out when necessary to take on the Emperor. The scene was uploaded to YouTube by CuteLittleScene on November 11th, 2006, gaining over 7,000 views in 16 years (shown below).
On January 8th, 2012, a GIF of Yoda crawling through the vent was uploaded to OriginalTrilogy.com[1] (shown below).
Spread
On June 26th, 2018, iFunny[2] user BastardQlown posted an image macro using a GIF of Yoda crawling through the vent with a captioned, "Me: 'Yoda please get out of my asshole PLEASE get out it hurts oh god it hurts' Yoda: 'mm reach your colon i must,'" gaining over 3,500 smiles in three years (shown below). The meme was reposted to Tumblr[3] on December 18th, gaining over 24,000 notes in a comparable span of time.
The format became popularized on Reddit over the following years in shitposts, using Yoda crawling through the vent to joke about how specific things travel. For example, on November 5th, 2019, Redditor U_mome_gay posted an image macro reading using Yoda to represent a kidney stone passing through a urethra to /r/okbuddyretard,[4] gaining over 22,000 upvotes in two years (shown below, left). On June 29th, 2020, Redditor Kimmy_head posted a meme to /r/prequelmemes[5] using Yoda crawling to represent an ant crawling out of their flooded hill, gaining over 10,000 upvotes in a year (shown below, right).
On April 27th, 2021, Redditor Dansydemansy posted a version of the meme to /r/dankmemes[6] joking about how the sun gives people skin cancer, gaining over 20,800 upvotes in seven months (shown below).
