You Ain't Built for These Streets Cuh is an image macro format combining the caption with images of animals, people and fictional characters. Spawned by an image of a cat sitting on a pile of money and guns, the format achieved popularity in late 2022 and early 2023.

Origin

On September 30th, 2022, Instagram[1] user uglykittens.crew posted a photograph of a cat sitting on a pile of money with two handguns laying next to it. The post (shown below) gained over 17,400 likes in eight months and was widely circulated online.

Spread

In the following month, edits of the macro which replaced the original image with other characters were posted on iFunny and Instagram. For example, on October 1st, 2022, iFunny[2] Schizo_Chopper posted a One Piece version received over 3,100 smiles in seven months (shown below, left). On October 18th, 2022, Instagram[3] user pablo69420123456 posted a macro combining the caption with an image of morbidly obese Batman (author unknown, shown below, right).

More edits of the macro were shared in 2023. For example, on February 17th, 2023, Facebook[4] page Hard Images posted a Super Mario Bros. version of the meme that received over 4,800 reactions and 1,700 shares in three months (shown below, left).

The macro has also spawned recaption memes. For example, on April 23rd, 2023, gimmick Twitter[5] account @pirate_posting shared a Handheld Pupper meme that received over 3,500 retweets and 31,200 likes in one month (shown below, right).
