About
Ziohazard is an anti-Semitic portmanteau of the words "biohazard" and "Zionism." The controversial slang term, in use sparingly for over a decade online, is typically used when speaking of things that are directly beneficial to Israel and its sovereignty against Palestine. In 2023, the word gained mainstream use within white nationalist circles online, resulting in interest surrounding it to grow.
Origin
The earliest recorded usage of the contentious word comes from the Twitter account @feet_in_usa[1] on August 11th, 2011, who used it to call Israel under Benjamin Netanyahu a regime causing terror for its bombing of Lebanon over the course of decades (shown below).
Spread
The slang term remained in relative obscurity during the 2010s, being used sporadically without consistent widespread or mainstream use until early 2023.
On January 3rd, 2023, Twitter user @congophilosophy[2] uploaded a screenshot of someone claiming that the term came to them in a dream, with the word notably being labeled as a slur. The screenshot also included the graphic commonly used alongside the term that depicts a Star of David meshed with a biohazard sign (shown below).
The word "Ziohazard" would see a substantial increase in use over the following months, with the Twitter account @P33Hole[3] posting the combined images of Ziohazard's 2023 resurgence on June 11th, 2023, while claiming that a "new slur just dropped" and saying to "spread the word" (shown below).
