'Call of Duty' Streamer NickMercs Banned By Twitch For Using Transphobic Slur
Streamer Nickmercs, best known for streaming Call of Duty and garnering attention last year for his controversial thoughts on the LGBTQ+ community, has received a ban from Twitch for using a transphobic slur.
Mercs allegedly used the word "tr**ny" on stream, resulting in a ban of indeterminate length. Hateful conduct usually earns streamers a 30-day ban under their guidelines, but the platform is often inconsistent.
Mercs first went viral outside of the Twitch and gaming community in 2023 for tweeting that LGBTQ+ people should "leave little kids alone," causing him to lose his collaborative opportunities with Call of Duty, including seeing the game remove a skin made in his honor.
He was previously a vocal supporter of Dr DisRespect before distancing himself in the wake of his recent grooming allegations this week.
Nickmercs also recently shot transphobic remarks at MrBeast contributor Ava Kris Tyson, herself trans, saying in an online spat, "You should be ashamed of yourself. Leaving behind your wife & child, to play pretend. One day you’ll wake up, and realize what you’ve done."
Nickmercs association with Dr DisRespect drove the majority of the online reaction to his ban, as many recalled his supposed "protect the kids" take last year and found it hypocritical that he stuck by "Doc" before the grooming allegations came to light.
The ban will likely not severely affect Nickmercs' revenue stream, as he remains active on Kick.
