American restaurant chain Cracker Barrel has both shocked and impressed many online after it announced plant-based sausages will feature on its new menus. The restaurant, which seemingly appears at every highway rest stop in the continental United States, is accused of going woke and compromising its integrity by some angry customers.

I just remembered that when I was a kid you could rent cassette tapes at cracker barrel's to be returned at other cracker barrel's. a true understanding of the cracker barrel clientele – people driving long distances who will be at another cracker barrel in 12 hours

In a post on Cracker Barrel’s official Facebook account, the well-known purveyor of down-home cooking revealed it would sell new Impossible ™ sausages. In the comments section, some melted down and got angry at the company.
The Facebook post was screenshotted and shared to other platforms, including Twitter. Many pointed out that those upset over the change could continue to order regular meat at Cracker Barrel.
This is so interesting (if predictable). Meat eaters angry that Cracker Barrel is offering fake meat to people who want it. It’s not enough for them to get what they want; people they don’t like must not be accommodated. I’m not happy unless you’re unhappy. https://t.co/a5JzeIgdVm

But for some with a sentimental attachment to the Southern-style restaurant, the news must have hit hard.
There’s a family group chat somewhere where meemaw sent this article and everyone’s mourning the fact they can never go to Cracker Barrel again https://t.co/Vnf3hbmuxA

Cracker Barrel is like if a civil war re-enactment became a restaurant https://t.co/ylgyCRYql1

Cracker Barrel has shown no signs of backing down despite some vocal backlash, and the restaurant is going forward with its plans and the vast majority of commenters on the Facebook page seem to approve. One can only wonder what the online outrage would be if Waffle House is the next to "fall."
