Last night's MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) were, as they usually are, a curious spectacle, with camp villainess Nicki Minaj hosting an evening packed with performances and celebrity promotions. But one performance threatened to send reviews for the event plummeting — Snoop Dogg and Eminem's hologram performance of "From the D 2 The LBC" as their Bored Ape NFTs.

"From the D 2 The LBC" and its Bored Ape-centric music video was released in June and, as with most things NFT-related, people who are already "in the club" thought it was cool while many others thought it was very, very cringeworthy.
Last night's rap performance, which also featured Snoop and Marshall's human avatars "performing" in a Metaverse version of the VMAs, was no different, as people with hexagonal profile pictures expressed how they thought it was really cool and a much more outspoken sect of social media struggled to come up with words hyperbolic enough to express their disdain for the show.

It makes me extraordinarily happy knowing how angry this has made the anti NFT crowd pic.twitter.com/ykO7e8x0Os— CRG (@MacroCRG) August 29, 2022
This is the MOST morally objectionable thing either of these men has ever done.
Seriously. Snoop & Eminem may have to each ACTUALLY murder someone to elevate themselves above the status of "having performed as NFT Apes" 🤮 https://t.co/Xi2XsqyLWZ— Like Kurosawa, I Make Mad (@the_moviebob) August 29, 2022

However, despite some crypto-enthusiasts saying they were pleased with the implications of Snoop and Eminem bringing their Bored Apes to such a massive stage, there was some division in the crypto space as well. Some expressed that they felt the performances from the more senior rappers made NFTs look "uncool."
50 year old rappers and MTV are marketing NFTs. Crypto has officially crashed. pic.twitter.com/gxR4tdfFwx

Snoop Dogg is 50 years old, and Eminem is 49 years old.
Imagine trying to get an average 50-year-old to buy an NFT.
It literally won't happen.

For all of you NFT lovers…are you not seeing what’s happening? Eminem+Snoop VMA is the clearest sign you can see. ETH NFTs are for boomers. SOL NFTs are the future.
Solana NFT market cap will flip Ethereum NFT market cap next bull run. I am certain of it. It’s already starting— The NFT Economist (@thenfteconomist) August 29, 2022
While it's unclear if and how Snoop and Eminem's NFT performance will affect the crypto space in the future, more clear is that many people, including some in the target audience of NFT owners, absolutely hated it.
