People who were paying attention saw this shit at least in the 90's. I know because when the copyright protection was extended to keep Micky Mouse it sent a strong message that corporations can write laws and elected officials dance to please them.

I'm sure some people noticed sooner. I wasn't born yet, so forgive my toddlerself for not understanding the ramifications of copyright law.
