About
Phranque or Frank the Gelatinous Cube is a character in the 2026 God of War video game, God of War: Laufey, depicted as a big, talking gelatinous cube sidekick to the protagonist Faye (Kratos' dead wife). Phranque is voiced by actor Jack Quaid and was first shown in the reveal trailer for the game, which was released on June 2nd, 2026.
Phranque became the subject of reactions and memes after the trailer was released. Some found the character immediately annoying and out of place in the world of God of War, struggling to understand his inclusion and whether or not he was based on any real Norse mythology or myths from other cultures.
The character also inspired memes and fan art, some of which use the phrase, "Whoop his ass Frank," and depict Phranque attacking enemies (a reference to a moment in the reveal trailer). Many of the memes also purposely misspell "Phranque" as "Frank."
Origin
On June 2nd, 2026, the teaser trailer for God of War: Laufey, a continuation of the mainline God of War franchise following 2022's Ragnarök, was released, putting players in the role of Kratos' second wife, Faye, who died in the 2018 game.[1] A 20-minute gameplay preview was also released on the GameSpot YouTube[2] channel.
Both videos feature a character named Phranque, pronounced "Frank," voiced by Jack Quaid, showing him to be one of the protagonists in the game. Phranque appears as a large gelatinous cube who acts as a sidekick for Faye. In the gameplay preview, he is seen helping Faye attack an enemy by ramming into it from a distance.
Phranque also appears prominently on a piece of promotional art for the game, which was posted by the Santamonicastudio Instagram[3] page that day to over 140,000 likes in a day. The art shows Phranque standing beside Faye.
