Well, even without GG, that's the most likely outcome.

Back when most info came from either the press, devs or demos, the closest thing to an alternative was mouth-to-mouth, since most people wouldn't buy 5 magazines to see 5 opinions.
With the internet, people could now read several pieces for free. Even more, the professional press no longer was the main alternative, since bloggers appeared, both things taking away part of their readers.
But when Youtube kicked in, that was the fatal blow. Now there's no need to read their opinions. You can just go straight to the source and watch the gameplay for yourself. Something smells like bullshit on a review? Check it your own. Furthermore, since you don't have to pay to upload a video (like you would for a site domain), let's players and vloggers are rampant, and divide the audience even more.
Social media was the cherry on top, allowing devs to talk straight to the customers, thus cutting the middle man.

As I see it, gaming press, at least in it's traditional format, is fucked. They're no longer the exclusive source, the exclusive opinion, and can be fact checked far easier.
Is no surprise they abuse clickbait articles for traffic then, but even that is a short-time solution. Listen someone talking shit for a long time, and eventually you'll just shut his voice in your head.
