>I transitioned out of industries I hated into an industry I loved
I've long suspected this is a big part of the underlying reason for all the vitriol the game journos have for the gaming public; I don't think the majority of them love games.
I think they all wanted to write for SPIN or VICE or Rolling Stone, but didn't have the right connections. Or they wanted to be novelists, but didn't have the talent.
So then they thought to themselves "well, I played SMB a few times when I was a kid, I guess I'll be a games journalist," and here they are. Stuck in an industry that wasn't their first, second, or perhaps even third choice. And all that regret and resentment gets channeled at their audience, because they can't admit to themselves that they just weren't cut out to be what they wanted to be.
