Background

On February 16th, 2024, YouTuber and music critic Anthony Fantano posted a text message to his Instagram Story in which a nameless contact sends him the message, "your dick makes my brain feel like tv static" (shown below). The post went viral and was posted to the subreddit /r/ihavesex^[1] on February 17th, garnering over 4,000 upvotes in two days (shown below).

That day, X^[2] user and OnlyFans model @michelleyroo made a post writing, "whenever men have to publicly and loudly brag about anything sexual, I immediately realize how much they’re lying; like okay sweetie, let’s get you back to bed!" It is unconfirmed if this is connected to Fantano's post. Prior to this throughout the month, she made several other posts to X^[3][4] about a nameless ex who is presumed by some to be Fantano.

Later that day, she posted seven photos (shown below, censored) of herself with Fantano to X,^[5] including one cropped text message from Fantano reading, "OK, then prove it. Stop seeking." The post gained over 1,800 likes in two days. In the post, she writes:

"I GUESS since he told me to prove it😊here’s proof that no matter how basic of a dude you are, you’re still able to pull the girl you’re obsessed with as long as you keep trying to convince her☺️ apparently there’s always a chance😆 yes, this is my ex that I’ve been referencing. And I’ve got HUNDREDS more obviously and these are the most tame but once again, since he wanted me to prove it, finally enjoy knowing who he was with a few tidbits🫶

Online Reactions

The release of the photos inspired memes and reactions online. Anthony Fantano largely embraced the photographs and began liking and responding to content on X relating to them. On February 17th, 2024, the night of the post, Fantano made a post to X^[6] simply reading "sup," garnering over 2,700 likes in two days (shown below).

On February 18th, X^[7] user @femceldorito quote-reposted an image of Batman carrying Harley Quinn on his shoulder, writing, "Fantano the other day," garnering over 4,500 likes in a day (shown below, left). Later that day, X^[8] user @CurtisBashar called the photos "embarrassing," with Fantano responding, "post it to your main feed if it's so embarrassing for me, lol. embarrass me more," garnering over 500 likes in a day (shown below, right).

Later that day, X^[9] user @iiTarma posted a piece of artwork depicting Fantano lifting Michelleyroo over his shoulder, writing, "FANTANO WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!" garnering over 200 likes in a day (shown below). That day, Fantano responded to an X^[10] user who wrote, "Me and my girl just recreated that one @theneedledrop pic, good luck guessing which one," writing, "post it, coward," garnering over 2,400 likes in a day.
