Before the shooting, Mexican Kick streamer Alejandro Fierro shared the collab stream with influencer César Gastélum on August 4th, 2026.^[1] The AI-generated announcement stated that the two would be working as Rappi delivery drivers around 6 p.m. in Culiacán, plugging his Kick channel alejandrofierroo.

The slaying of Gastélum then took place during the August 4th stream, sometime late at night that day. Fierro's Kick stream and VOD have since been removed from the platform. However, reuploads of the moment have been widely reposted.

For example, X / Twitter^[2] user 5amAzul uploaded the clip in a tweet on August 5th, 2026, garnering over 5.1 million views, 48,000 likes and 930 replies in 10 hours. In the post, 5amAzul claims that Fierro "had a bad feeling when first seeing the gunmen on the motorcycle 2 minutes later coming back and killing César."

In the clip, César Gastélum, Alejandro Fierro and another unknown man are seen outside of a KFC location when two gunmen on a bike suddenly roll up to the group, pulling out a gun and shooting Gastélum in the head at point-blank range, killing him as he collapses to the ground.

In the replies to the tweet, several Twitter users inquired about the reasoning for the shooting, with replies claiming it was due to not paying the cartel to "make money on their turf" or "made a comment to piss them off," as well as others alleging one of the group's members being associated with the Sinaloa Cartel.^[3] However, these are merely speculation and no explanation has been officially confirmed or reported yet.^[4]

Online Reactions

The death of César Gastélum during the stream quickly went viral as the video was reposted and discussed across social media over the following days in early August 2026.

For instance, on August 5th, 2026, Twitter^[5] user wyoleon reposted the clip from the livestream, including the few seconds of the stream after the gunshot, garnering over 505,800 views, 1,600 likes and 40 replies in 12 hours.

Around the same time, Twitter^[6] user FearedBuck posted about Gastelum being killed, receiving over 1.3 million views, 10,000 likes and 260 replies in 12 hours.

Also on August 5th, the clip of the shooting was posted to the /r/rmexico^[7] subreddit under the title "Content creator murdered in Culiacán while live streaming. This is how César Gastelum was executed outside a KFC while live streaming on his Kick channel," garnering over 510 upvotes and 120 comments in 13 hours.

Two posts about the killing were then made to the /r/LivestreamFail^[8][9] subreddit that day, with the first receiving over 2,100 upvotes and 400 comments in 10 hours and the second over 9,700 upvotes and 2,200 comments in six hours. The latter also included a cut of the stream that edited out the part with Gastélum being shot.

Later on August 5th, 2026, CNN posted about the story to its official Facebook^[10] page, garnering over 1,700 likes, 400 comments and 110 shares in four hours.

Also that day, TikToker^[11] jarenhou25 posted about the incident, highlighting the unknown man in the group and claiming he fled before the gunman pulled out the gun to shoot Gastelum, receiving over 35,500 likes and 520 comments in seven hours.

On August 5th, 2026, following the shooting, a story post purportedly from Alejandro Fierro's social media began circulating online. The story was reposted by X / Twitter^[12] user doctortocino09 that day, garnering roughly 25,000 views and 160 likes in five hours.

The post roughly translates to:
