Adobe Photoshop is a image editing program published by the Adobe corporation. The program offers a wide variety of tools, with which skilled users can create unique art or alter others images. Photoshop has become so popular that photoshopping or ‘shopping’ has become a de-facto word for image editing in general.

Photoshop as a medium for artistic expression has seen extensive use across the internet, with many Photoshop trends becoming individual memes. Some of these have even spawned a whole “genre” of memetic phenomenons.

Photoshop Objects

Across the internet, there are many examples of single images that have become the object of Photoshop phenomenons. An image that is widely photoshoped and mutated can become an inside joke for a community, and gives entertainment without necessarily conveying a message. In some cases, the phenomenons gain notoriety outside their original community and become widespread across the internet. Most of the most notable examples come from prolific communities such as 4chan and Something Awful.
