Yiff In Hell Furfags

“Yiff in Hell, furfags” is one of the most common phrases used amongst /b/tards toward or about Furries; people who are fans of the genre of art, film, and literature centered around anthropomorphic animals known as Furry Fandom.

The term “Yiff” is used amongst a subset of Furries sometimes referred to as Yiffers, Plushies or Furverts, whom enjoy engaging in sexual activities while wearing fursuits as a form of fetish. However, not all fursuiters are Furverts, and not all Furries are even casual fursuit-wearers.

The phrase is made up of three key elements:

• Yiff – a term used amongst furries sometimes as a euphemism for costumed sexual activities
• Yiff in Hell – The common phrase used by Furry-haters
• Furfag – Chanspeak for “Furry.” Every demographic represented on 4chan is represented by the suffix -fag.

Google Insights for Search shows that interest in “furry fandom” is only slightly higher than searches for the phrases “yiff in hell” and the term “furfag.” This would seem to reflect the general popularity of anti-furvert sentiment that is directed toward all Furries as a whole.

Appearance

While only a couple of image macros with the exact phrase “Yiff in hell” can be found, a search for pages containing the phrase amount in excess of 600,000 and the longer, “Yiff in hell, furfags” makes up 1/6th of that.

So it seems that original content pertaining to “yiff in hell furfags” is slim, but the anti-furry slogan mostly appears as a basic repetition in text.

On 4chan, “Yiff in Hell” is typically found in Furry threads, used as a protest to those other anonymous users who post anthropomorphic pornography. It could be argued that the majority of Furry Fandom artwork that is posted to /b/ is of a pornographic nature.

While it has been seen spammed throughout threads in great numbers, certain self-identified furries have offered rebuttals stating that the argument doesn’t make sense.

Why it makes no sense to furries.

The phrase “Yiff in Hell” is meant to convey a tone of impending violence, as the “X in hell” cliche does; where X represents the appropriate contextual verb of which the message’s recipient is known for. (ie: A postal worker who kills a dog might say, “eat kibble in hell.” If a random sniper takes out the postal worker, he might say, “Deliver This..To hell!”)

So those who proliferate the message, “Yiff in Hell” believe that they are effectively communicating their distaste for Yiffers.

But self-proclaimed yiffers (not to be confused with the more general Furry) often retort; arguing that the phrase doesn’t make sense.

If “Yiff” is defined to be a word referring to sex, analagous to “fuck,” and if Hell is to be taken as the classic definition of a place for sinners to experience eternal damnation, then the phrase “Yiff in Hell” carries the meaning, “Go enjoy yourselves in a place that’s meant for suffering.” In which case, the furry thinks, “Yeah. That’s the point.”

To put this in context: if someone were to tell you to “Fuck in hell,” the reactions would likely be more of bewilderment than offense. Depending on the religous background of the message’s recipient. that reaction might range from confusion to enthusiastic agreement.

2, the Ranting Gryphon

The Ranting Grypon is a stand-up comedian, gay man, and self-proclaimed furry. In 2008, he released a DVD of his stand-up routine, entitled Yiff in Hell, furfags.
