What Is Eggman's Announcement? The Source Of The Infamous Monologue, In Which Eggman Pees On The Moon, Explained
At this point, you've likely heard it:
Eggman comes to make announcement. Most of it is unfit to print, but the key points are that he really doesn't like Shadow the Hedgehog, culminating in him urinating on the moon.
"How do you like that, Obama?" he says.
Where Does Eggman's Announcement Come From?
Eggman's Announcement comes from the YouTube channel SnapCube, which has done multiple lengthy real-time improvised dubs of video games. In their "dub-through" of Sonic Adventure 2 (the "dark story" version), Alfred Coleman, voicing Dr. Robotnik, improvises a villainous monologue over the scene where the "real" Dr. Eggman announces his supervillain plan to the world, which seems to involve firing a laser at the moon. This is what it actually looks like:
Obviously, Alfred Coleman took the scene in a much different, far more profane direction, resulting in a video that would become a massive meme.
How Has Eggman's Announcement Been Memed?
The video saw dozens of tributes throughout the years, including tweets where the screenshot of Eggman making his announcement was edited for posts on Twitter.
There were also dozens of video tributes, putting Alfred's Eggman monologue in the voice of different characters, or having Eggman interrupt other videos with his profane announcement.
What Else Has SnapCube Done?
SnapCube has inspired several memes, including others voiced by Alfred during the same playthrough. Others include Coleman's "I have over 70 alternate accounts" monologue, "Who posted my nudes on Twitter.com?" and "I miss my wife, Tails" (Coleman was particularly inspired during that recording session).
There's also the Gamer Pad monologue delivered by Shadow in their Sonic '06 dub-through, as well as other gags that have become references online. For our money, while the Sonic Adventure 2 dub is clearly a classic, don't sleep on the Marvel's Spider-man dub, which somehow turned the phrase "Can I ask you a personal question?" into comedic gold.
