The Weekly Meme Roundup: Down Boy, Blobslop, Creepypasta Song And More

Word on the streets of TikTok is that we're in a meme drought, but if that's true, how can they explain these five viral memes from the past week?
This week alone, an out-of-context Archie Comics panel became a huge redraw format, the concept of "blobslop" inspired Twitter discourse and songs about bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches and creepypastas took over social media.
Here are five of the biggest memes of the past week for you to catch up on.
"Down Boy!!" "Arf!"
A panel from a 1975 issue of the Archie Comics publication Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica in which Veronica treats Archie like a dog has become one of the biggest redraw memes of the year.

The meme, known after its dialogue, 'Down boy!!' 'Arf!', started going viral on TikTok at the end of February, but it's really taken off across social media this week.
In the very out-of-context panel, Veronica yells at Archie like a dog, demanding he sit down. Archie complies, saying, "Arf!" and sitting. The dominance coming from Veronica sparked something in a lot of people, who saw their favorite characters in the dynamic between the two on-again-off-again and decided to redraw the panel with those characters.
TikTok was the first place where the panel went viral, but it didn't take long to spread to X, where every character imaginable started taking the place of Veronica and Archie thanks to some talented artists.

The Creepypasta Song
The biggest creepypastas of all time have been immortalized through "The Creepypasta Song," and it became a massive meme on TikTok this week.
The song came out on March 1st, and it's been spreading like wildfire since. In particular, the song has gone viral on TikTok in the same vein as "The Mimic Song," which is to say that most people find it endearingly cringeworthy and are having fun mocking clips from it.
Included in the song are a lot of choice lyrics filled with references to the best (and worst) creepypastas, including "Ed, Edd n Eddy Purgatory Theory," "I'm Slender Man! Find my pages," and, "I'm ProJared and I cheated on my wife." Some talented people have even taken the memes to the next step with animations based on the song. Whether you're a creepypasta fan or a cringe enjoyer, award your ears a little treat and give it a listen.

Blobslop
A common genre of Twitter memes has been coined "blobslop" this week, and it's resulted in a fair amount of discourse on the platform.

The term started floating around at the end of 2024 as a way to describe a specific genre of webcomics that use simplistic, blob-like characters to illustrate common tropes and dynamics. Think the recent "Gets Brainwashed of That Thing" meme or the "Sometimes I Wonder how I Would Taste" format.
These webcomics and memes are very popular on Twitter and people have really started to notice it lately, bringing the term "blobslop" into the mainstream Twitter user's lexicon.
"Blobslop" is a pretty negative way of describing this genre, making it a perfect fit for the people of Twitter, who can't seem to go five minutes without something new to rage about.
Now, people are using the term to call out comics that fit the genre wherever they might pop out, with a Wojak meme showing a man wearing an "I heart blobslop" shirt acting as one of the most popular reactions to the content. Some artists are also posting blobslop parody comics to illustrate exactly why they hate the genre.

University of Waterloo Student ID
When you go off to college, you might expect to come out a better, more educated person. But one viral University of Waterloo student ID suggests that might not be the case.

The viral photo shows a man holding two different student IDs for the same student, one taken in his first year and one in his second. In the first photo, he has a big smile and looks ready to learn.
The second ID photo, however, shows a man who has been beaten down by the stresses of school, enveloped in shadows and sporting something resembling a Kubrick stare. Somewhere in that year-long span, this man was changed and now, the stark contrast in photos is inspiring memes.
The most recent memes based on the photo are coming out of TikTok. These memes have people take their own before-and-after-style photos that look to replicate the ID photos.
People are also comparing the ID photos to similar photos, including one viral post that compares them to another troubling set of University of Waterloo IDs. What exactly the University of Waterloo is doing to have such drastic effects on the student body, we may never know.

"Bacon, Egg and Cheese" Song
To end this week's roundup, let's all enjoy this viral song from the mind of rapper Wavyrioo about the joys of eating a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, known as the "Bacon, Egg N Cheese" song.
A music video for the song was released back in 2022, but it's been experiencing a major resurgence lately after TikTokers got their hands on it. It's a very simple song, consisting largely of the lyrics "bacon egg and cheese" on repeat over a danceable beat.
Mostly, TikTokers are dancing to the song or setting it to viral videos of people dancing. They're also attaching captions about New York City to the song because bacon egg and cheese sandwiches are so popular in the city.
Beyond that, the song is also being used in memes about being Dominican. These memes show a stereotypically Dominican person under captions like, "How did you know I was Dominican?" suggesting it's easy to tell based on their appearance.
Bacon egg and cheese lovers, rise up and put on your dancing shoes. Your time is now.
