Polish language speakers have a knack for inspiring some of the internet's funniest memes— a fact anyone who remembers the chaotic Bober videos will be happy to attest to.

The latest Polish addition to the meme glossary comes from the Elden Ring community, with Reddit's Soulslike forums being overrun by the phrase "Zabito Boga," a line that sounds more like a Minions dialogue than an Elden Ring graphic. Nevertheless, fans were immediately taken by the phrase, which closely translates to "God Has Been Slain" in Polish.

Here's what kicked off the Zabito Boga craze over on /r/EldenRing, and why fans were so tickled by it.

Where Did The Phrase 'Zabito Boga' Come Fromm And What Does It Mean?

Soulslike games such as Elden Ring and Bloodborne often depict key player achievements using a splashy graphic that takes over the screen, displaying messages like "You Died" and "Humanity Restored." The instantly recognizable graphics and phrases have long been part of FrommSoft games, which is why Redditor /u/gamingr3x's November 26th post was such a funny surprise for fellow /r/EldenRing users.

The Redditor posted a screengrab of him defeating Radahn in Elden Ring, an achievement that typically leads to the message "God Slain" appearing on the player's screen. However, the screengrab posted by /u/gamingr3x showed the phrase "Zabito Boga," which translates to "God Was Killed" in Polish.

The unexpected and dramatic-yet-silly tone of the Polish translation led to the post gathering over 7,000 points, and the phrase "Zabito Boga" appearing all over the subreddit in no time.

How Did The Zabito Boga Meme Spread Online?

The phrase 'Zabito Boga' spread on /r/EldenRing thanks to several Redditors making memes featuring the phrase and also spamming the line in the replies of everyone who posted their "God Slain" achievement.

Redditor /u/I_justwantbig_quads posted an Orc alongside the catchphrase the day after gamingr3x's 'Zabito Boga' post, while /u/SweetBeardedJesus's post was inundated with other users spamming the phrase "Zabito Boga."

By December 2024, the meme was all over /r/EldenRing. Fans began incorporating the the catchphrase into their favorite memes, even as other Redditors made meta posts about how posting a 'Zabito Boga' meme is a sure shot way to farm karma.
