Quote from Michael Brockhoff regardig the documentary:
"The footage we shot at BronyCon, and continue to shoot elsewhere, reinforced the positive feelings about the Brony phenomenon that inspired us to make the film in the first place. At BronyCon we witnessed people laughing; singing; getting autographs; wearing costumes; dancing; attending panels; meeting one another for the first time; taking pictures; etc, etc. We experienced a general outpouring of friendship, cooperation and excitement at being part of something new and good. It was infectious.The notion that Bronies are a bunch of deviants to be feared by society was never in evidence -- nor did we ever think it would be. So, the question of seeking out and, therefore, giving credence to a very small subculture within the Brony community simply because it exists, seems like a stretch for this documentary.
We are aware of Internet Rule 34: 'If it exists there is porn.' Does that mean if we were to do a documentary about the Andy Griffith show, 'Mayberry' we'd have to include a cosplay fan pretending to be Barney Fife having his way with Aunt Bee? "
Well, first off, the show is not called 'Mayberry'. It's called 'The Andy Griffith Show'. He was probably confusing it for 'Mayberry rfd'. Second, that's a stupid comparison. As we all know, R34 is pretty prevalent in brony culture. Many of the most well known fan artists draw rule 34 and AskMolestia is probably one of the most well known tumblrs. Rule 34 is pretty important when talking about the brony fandom or pretty much any fandom born online. The Andy Griffith Show fandom(?) doesn't have anything like that. So, that comparison is really really stupid.

New topic. What do you all think about the bronies in the comments of the MLP entry? I personally think they have a hell of an ego sometimes. I also think that the forum dwellers are more down to earth than the comments section, but that's just me.
nothing against them really, coming from that place and being fresh here in the forums and all, but i have to admit, there are a few obnoxious ones in there. and of couse, the occasional idiot troll.
but for the short time i've lurked here, i kinda like it here more now than the comments section. ever since some of you guys started posting there to go into the forums", i finally decided to jump ship. and here i am.
also, Karma.
also, i've been a brony for like 10 months now (blame curiosity turning into genuine interest), and i'll be turning a year old this coming October. majority of my friends obviously know, my younger brothers and cousins know that i'm one but they simply don't care. probably because i don't try to force it down their throats, and i tend to keep my power level well-hidden in public. there's the occasional "why are you so into that stuff?" whenever i browse for ponies with my laptop while mooching off our college's WiFi. i simply say "you know how i am. i may be a bit of a psychopath IRL but i tend to like cute stuff." and being in a country where the stereotypical mucho macho man brimming with testosterone is a big deal, i'd say it ain't so bad. and i have no regrets.
anyway, it's 5:00AM here, and i have French class at 8 AM. gotta go get ready. later, guys. i'll probably be lurking here again later while in school.

I've got Toonami and new episodes of Futurama and White Colar to keep up with so I should be good for awhile.
@next season episode themes
body swap
>mfw Solaire was all "meh" about this one
lol anyways this needs to happen – It would be hilarious with this bunch of characters.
returning villians – I figure Gilda's punk ass returning is least likely. Even though she has motivation for revenge, she's not exactly evil so I don't really see it happening. The role De Lancie got in season 3 doesn't necessarily have to be Discord but I'm still hoping it is and as for trixie I dunno if the description on her card or Twilight saying she might come back means anything, but it does seem like they're deliberately hinting at it.
Death – I think it would be too "opposite day" for mlp. They're are themes that some shows simply shouldn't try to work with and It would be awkward as fuck like the serious business domestic abuse episode of Family Guy. Sure hasbro has a team of writers who would most likely handle dark things like this alot better (mainly because this show's target audience is kids and they're going to be more careful in the first place) but I figure part of being a good writer is knowing what you shouldn't write based on the nature of the show and it's intended audience, so I really doubt this will happen ever. Just because mlp is all about lessons doesn't mean it's going to attempt to teach one of the toughest ones to swallow that even adults can have a hell of a time coming to terms with.

OK, how about this:
From The Guardian
"It was the sight of a young male Adélie penguin attempting to have sex with a dead female that particularly unnerved George Murray Levick, a scientist with the 1910-13 Scott Antarctic Expedition. No such observation had ever been recorded before, as far as he knew, and Levick, a typical Edwardian Englishman, was horrified. Blizzards and freezing cold were one thing. Penguin perversion was another.
Worse was to come, however. Levick spent the Antarctic summer of 1911-12 observing the colony of Adélies at Cape Adare, making him the only scientist to this day to have studied an entire breeding cycle there. During that time, he witnessed males having sex with other males and also with dead females, including several that had died the previous year. He also saw them sexually coerce females and chicks and occasionally kill them."
You know where that really didn't need to be mentioned, and therefore wasn't?

Nature docs tend to show just about everything about the breeding cycles, so still not a good comparison. that isn't something central to penguin life therefore it wasn't mentioned, but they still showed all of the other sexual aspects of penguins(finding mates, breeding,etc.)
I was just saying that his Andy Griffith comparison was really stupid. They don't have to mention rule34, but it is pretty important to brony culture and it would be interesting to see in the doc.
@Iamslow
John De Lancie's a typecast. He said it himself, he doesn't have the huge repertoire of voices some VAs like Tara have. No disrespect to the man, he's a fantastic actor, but he does one sort of performance and he does it well.
Discord sounds like Q, Professor Quadrangle sounds like Discord. Any responsible casting agent wouldn't have him do two different major characters in the same series. So when he comes back, there's very little chance he wouldn't be playing Discord again.
(Of course he wouldn't be able to out-right tell people the character he's playing over Twitter because that would be a spoiler and a violation of his NDA, but he can tell people he's recording.)
As for returning villains, Trixie's almost guaranteed at this point, I mean it's not like they aren't aware of how many bronies want to see her again. (see: Trixie trading card) But seriously people, why all the hate for Gilda?
Sure she was a bitch, but Trixie was also a bitch, a smug one with even less redeeming qualities and relatability. Gilda had actual motivation, and out of the two of them she's the only one who has an opportunity for redemption, yet she's the one who gets s**t on by the fandom.
If both Trixie and Gilda get returning episodes, I guarantee you the Gilda one will have the most interesting story and the most heart.

Actually, The Street Fighter fandom has some of the highest levels of Rule 34 art in any online fandom I've seen.
But documentaries about the scene tend to focus on fighting tournaments, professional training regimens, the rivalry between different regions (USA vs Japan, NoCal and Socal..etc), amazing matches and comebacks in historical tournaments and the evolution of the fighting genre through the decades.
None really talk about Rule 34 even though we have the whole Chun-Li thigh thing and the boob size contest between Capcom and SNK (Morrigan vs Mai) and let's not even get into Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive series.
The only reason that Rule 34 seems prevalent in Brony culture is for several reasons:
- The massive explosion in a short amount of time (both the size of the fandom and R34 content)
- The controversy of R34 for a show aimed at little girls. A lot of of fighting game gals are obviously sexualized (CAMMY! FAPFAPFAP) and there is less real controversy of R34 for them.
- Grown men enjoying a show for little girls.
>Implying pedophiliaA bit creepy in general to common social perceptions. There must be something wrong with us…etc etc.
- Fucking Quadrupeds?! How the fuck do they work?
Again, I don't see why we have to be the ones who have to come clean with our R34 side. Street Fighter, Sonic, Harry Potter, Mass Effect..etc all have the same thing but us Bronies have to be the ones to die on the Cross for everyone's sins?
(Also, that kind of ended really seriously but please do not take it as such. I'm not really that invested in this debate as I really don't give two hoots about R34)

@Dac
Rule34?
Ask Molestia is NOT Rule 34, it's just sexual humor made funny by the fact that it's about talking ponies. If that's what you call 'porn' then you've got a pretty loose definition. You wanna know what Rule 34 in it's purist sense really means? I'll give you a hint, it involves Subway sandwiches.
And that kinda crap is not "pretty prevalent in brony culture", not any more so then in the Korra or Pokemon fandoms. Sexual humor and shipping is pretty damn prevalent, I'll give you that but for the most part that's all SFW.

Chill out dude. I suppose you could say r34 is only explicit depictions of intercourse, but I remember a couple molestia posts that were pretty explicit. Personally, I just lump all the sexual stuff together and refer to it as R34 regardless of how explicit it is. Anyways, I did specify that it was prevalent in any online fandom, so why are you acting like Im just saying bronies? My main point was that comparing MLP and Andy Griffith was really stupid. Had he said street fighter or sonic, I wouldn't be saying anything.
Edit: I remember a molestia post of her pleasuring rarity and another with Luna horn stuck in her… You know what. That isn't exactly just sexual humor like friends or various sitcoms. That's kinda explicit even if we don't see everything. So no, my definition of porn isn't that loose.

To keep this post pony related I have to ask:
Can anyone summarize any big news/important announcements/awesome moments from Bronycon?
I was stuck without internet for several days and it just seems so overwhelming to catch up on. Is there a recap page somewhere where I can see the panels or such?

No, it wasn't pointless. You made very good points. I just never said that I thought it was stupid how they won't include the sexual part of the brony fandom, I just thought his choice of words was stupid. I mean, it would be neat to see that part of the fandom, but considering I'm not planning on watching the doc anyways, I don't care.
@Burning
I've been wondering the same thing. I've poked around a couple of Bronycon posts to see if there was anything new and exciting to learn, but aside from the trading cards and a couple of new Alex S. tracks, there apparently wasn't much. That's not to say that it wasn't most likely a blast for the attendees, but in terms of breaking news, nuthin' much to see apparently. Other than the Con catching on fire, of course, but you've probably heard about that.
@phoenix
Well, EQD made a big mega-post for all the panels HERE.
That should give you hours upon hours of content to watch/listen to.
Or you could just look at this.
Because this was awesome.

I'm roughly 80% certain Michael Brockhoff doen't know much about the abstract perversions of the Street Fighter or Sonic communities. Regardless, the Andy Griffith comparison served it's purpose, and hyperbole can be an important part of any argument.

In my opinion, not in this case. It just didn't make much sense, but fine. He could have mentioned another cartoon fandom or some shit, I just wonder why he mentioned that.

Simple explanation: He's old.
Well, older than most of us.
It was likely just a spur-of-the-moment, pull-an-example-out-of-your-ass kind of thing.
Sure, he could have picked a better example, but frankly he doesn't seem exceptionally versed in net culture, so he likely doesn't have a clue what kind of major fanbases are out there that may have made more appropriate examples.
He wanted to make an analogy, so he just grabbed onto the first show he thought of from his childhood and ran with it.
Simple as that.

About r34 and brony culture, the fact it comes up as much as it does in our discussions speaks volumes about it's importance in brony culture. Looking up any of the characters on google is suicide( or fapping heaven). It is more than just a tiny fringe group of bronies that like to sexualize it. I'm not saying that other fandoms don't have it, but then again, it's much easier to sexualize cammy or korra than applejack or celestia. So that's why people find it so strange and worth noting over the others. Like furries I guess.

Don't question my powers bro. But yeah, Rule 34 is a large part of any fandom. It's not called Rule 34 for nothing. Every fandom has porn, and not in small quantities by far. Some fandoms just shine a bit more with their Rule 34 than other fandoms. Don't worry, Korra has her share of Rule 34. The Korra fandom is just smaller than the brony fandom, resulting in smaller quantities of porn. With something not centered around humans such as MLP or Furries, Rule 34 art just ignites a heavier reaction than fandoms that do center around humans like Korra.

Another cool thing from the con, if you are into the fan music, was the Bronypalooza concert. On the Saturday night of the con they had tons of performances both acoustic and electronic. There was fog machines, glowsticks, and a guy called laserpon3 had some cool laser light shows going on. Some of the voice actors even stopped by. John de Lancie made an appearance during Tombstone's remix of Discord and a reportedly drunk Tara Strong was dancing on stage with all the musicians. Below is an artists representation of the Living Tombstone's set.
As far as the performances went they were all pretty solid. There was some technical difficulties when setting up for the electronic musicians so they were a little handicapped in what they were able to do, but everyone still had loads of fun. The crowd was about 1000+ people at its peak and people were doing some silly stuff. At one point during Alex S.'s set I saw 4 people crowd surfing at once. Also, there were even some cosplayers dancing who were quite Impressive. I posted a video of one of them on page 7 of this thread.
The full video of the concert is here but I'm also going to shamelessly self-promote my video of my personal favorite set by Silva Hound and Art Attack by embedding it here.

@the R34 discussion
As a new artfag of the MLP fandom, I can say I am unable to give any fucks about R34.
I see it everywhere in other fandoms and have come to accept it as simply a bunch of lines and colors that have been arranged in a fashion that we have come to interpret as sexual.
That and I have definitely not drawn topless, humanized versions of 3 of the mane six in my spare time that I am definitely not keeping under my desk in a red sketchbook I got in middle school. >_>

About the arrow to the knee images:
They're related to the image gallery and legit contributions because of that. As much as you guys want to complain, the images aren't breaking any rules and therefore won't get removed. Irony is that the people who are breaking the rules are the users attacking the poster of those images, as attacking users for whatever reason is simply against the site rules.
If he finds them worthy of being posted, then so be it. We've already asked him to lower it down a bit. There's a bigger chance I'll warn all the users attacking him than seeing the images removed. They're related, so deal with it.
Hell, I'm sure if he posted those a few months ago when the Arrow to the Knee joke was still fresh and popular, all of you would be laughing at them and begging for more. Now stop being so goddamn selfish people, you don't own the image gallery.
"But they're more related to the AttK entry!"
If I had to follow that rule, I had a lot of cleaning up to do in the gallery. If you take a new pony gif that uses the "haters gonna hate" phrase, chances are it will be uploaded to the MLP entry but not to the haters gonna hate entry. But when that happens, you suddenly hear nobody complain. So why make an exception for the Arrow to the Knee images? Answer me that and I'll think about it again.

That seems like quite a nice little con. They have some interesting stuff planned, but they seem to be a little lacking when it comes to special guests. Also, in regards to Con attendance, from what I remember the Midwest has a lot of meetup groups , but an issue will be trying to get them all involved. They have 2 months before the con, so hopefully those issues can be sorted out in that time. In my opinion, It can't hurt to at least check it out. The first day is only $20, so if it sucks you can just walk home with very little loss.
If you are willing to travel to Cleveland a much larger con called Canterlot Gardens is being held. It looks like this one will have a lot more high profile guests and presentations. I don't know your travel capabilities, but this is the closest con (that I know of) that has the potential to be large scale like Everfree NW or Bronycon.
Suddenly, Derpy is next to you.

I would take her on a high class cruise, and once we set out to sea, I'd have her fix some of the chandeliers in the dining room of the ship, and then when the people leave the party after it ends, I'd have her go fix that cloud over there for good measure.
give a muffin?

Because obvious troll is obvious?
Rules are dead, people are alive. You've allowed him to get what he wants just because he's dancing around the rules you're shackled to, rather than think for yourself and do the right thing.

"He posted multiple images that I dislike, surely he must be a troll that breaks the rules."
Both his posts on this page are legit and I don't get why he's getting downvoted. So far I'm not really convinced. It's not like he's spamming them like he did at first, so the "no flooding" rule can also no longer be applied.
I'm willing to follow most of you in saying there's also a factor of trolling pressent, but even so it's by far not heavy enough to warrant a ban. Plus we can call him extremely succesful at it as long as people are responding to him with so much butthurt.
besides…you can ignore them

You're asking an awful lot from them.
@ Any pony ( I REFUSE TO TYPE ANYPONY) suddenly next to question:
No matter the pony, the answer's the same.
Basically this:
@R34 again sigh… discussion:
If this was a documentary about the internet then yeah, failing to mention R34 would be a huge blind spot.
For the sake of not clogging up the thread with the same opinions:

Nope….because a lot are smart and they will ignore(or at least not comment)
and i will post….a post that i posted on francis wall
"Well you see his strategy is…..“if you stop complaining/thumbing down my post them….i will stop”
and in his previous buried post he stated
“I will post more of these in the future, whenever I feel like it. If all you can do is insult them, I will simply ignore your drivel and continue to post my pictures. Good night, and love and tolerance to all of you oh so loving and tolerant people”
So the best action is..ignore these and move on…although there will always someone serving…dinner."
Now….if you don't mind..i will post this video….because its awesome

Don't worry about it, my previous post was just a joke. But unfortunately there's also a factor of truth in it. Way too many commentators feel the need to comment on it. They're not "untrollable", far more close to gullible if I had to be honest.
So yeah, as much as I want people to stop responding, it simply won't happen unfortunately.

The downvotes are the result of all the spamming and trolling and taunting he's ever done, not just 'at first' That's how actual karma works, if you chalk it up to butthurt then you'll be the one to lose out down the line.
And if you're actually saying he's 'really successful' at something you won't even admit is there then there's nothing else I can say to you.
dude…karma is only applied to forums
they are downvoted…because people didn't liked
