Another Ralph retort mess up. Ralph retort posted a divide and conquer garbage "opinion" article. Here's hoping he quits dropping the ball when it comes to being careful with messages.

Also Oliver just quit twitter, it appears to be a rage quit

It's actually a guest editorial apparently, so not really Ralph writing it as much as it is giving a platform.

It's still garbage, like most of what comes from the RR. The guy strawmans like the world's gonna end tomorrow if those pesky SJWs live another day.

In the end, we're free to ignore it, as usual.

About that, do we have any info about how this guy became their mod? I don't really know how the Twitch moderation system works. Did they chose him among the list of Twitch mods or they brought him along with them?

Twitch mods are chosen by the person they mod.

@MrKillultra

Sargon apologized for being stupid, they've made up.

Oliver isn't going anywhere, and that had nothing to do with GamerGate.

SBSW is back on as an all-day panel on harassment that has both sides on it.

Our strategy is talking about how unethical reporting leads to harassment, Methwhale is already waddling away as fast as she can after realizing she's booked herself into a cage match against Mercedes Carrera & Lynn Walsh with Brianna Wu as her backup.

Oh okay then. Any idea what went wrong to begin with?

"I'm a really lazy person fundamentally"
"Sorry, I'm trying to get hydrated again after drinking last night"
"I actually just pulled these images off of Google last minute"

Sounds like the type of thing you want to say to people when you want them to be impressed. I hope nobody paid to see this gongshow, I'd want my money back if I did.

The person running gitgud.io is also involved with 8archive.moe which has been down for a month as they work to get it back up.

He's probably very busy, they lost some time due to a dengue fever outbreak.

Brietbart has posted an article stating that feminists are trying to attack male programmers now with something known as the Ada Initiative.

Ada, for those whom aren't in the know, refers to Ada Lovelace. She wrote the first algorithm for the first computer. Because of this she is considered to be the first computer programmer.

Because this is loosely related, I'm posting it here instead of the comments section. I would prefer guidance as to which areas to post this article in.

Something that has been bothering me for a while, which is similar to GG but not directly related. I suppose I am bringing it up to vent a little, but also to use it as an example of issues in other, non-gaming media circles.

Has anyone else noticed that ABC News, aka Disney, aka Star Wars, has been promoting a lot of Star Wars "news"? I don't watch much TV, but I do listen to the radio a ton and there is usually about one story a week that somehow involves Star Wars. Examples I've personally experienced include reports about the popularity of Unwrapping Day, someone in a Chewbacca costume being arrested, pre-order ticket sales, and ratings for the trailer commercial.

There's nothing new about news being used as advertising. Most of the morning news shows became little more than infomercials for the network's prime time lineup or some celebrity-related product about 20 years ago. But while they certainly blur the lines, news segments and entertainment segments are usually broken up by commercial breaks and therefore have some claim to being distinguishable from one another.

This is not the case on the radio, where the news is quickly pumped out in about three minutes. There is something unethical about ABC, which purports to be a serious and objective news agency, using the cover of news reporting to market Star Wars without consistently disclosing its ties. It's pretty clear to me this is part of the marketing campaign disguised as news, and it's pretty clear people at ABC know this too. The first story about Unwrapping Day included a disclosure that Disney is the parent company of ABC, but subsequent stories (including those later that day about the same topic) haven't. As I said, I don't know how other areas of ABC News have handled such stories, but on the radio I would have classify its behaviors as pretty slimy.

@Colonel Sandor

It's blatantly obvious that Disney will be buying ads on "news programs", and that ABC will be doing it a lot as they're owned by Disney.

The problem is "what does legitimate news about Star Wars coming back end, and where does the advertising begin?"

Stars Wars being back is going to be big news, and Disney & the news networks are going to hide behind every bit of ambiguity in there.

I get all that, and it's unavoidable. In some ways that is what news has always been. American (and I think British, but am less familiar with them so will not speak so definitively) newspapers largely began as ways for merchants to share trade news.

What I object to is how news organizations today hold themselves up as disinterested, sacred institutions endowed with the highest of civic missions. They're not. All news organizations have, and always have had, cultural, social, and economic interests driving them, and I think society would be better off if this was done openly rather than behind some veil of objectivity. I really wouldn't care if all of Zoe Quinn' friends in the games media decided to always write that she was the best game developer ever, if only they would be honest about their relationships with her. For me it's not the opinion which is problematic in these situations, it's the deception. And there are far too many people who, being unaware of the slight of hand, absorb these messages uncritically.

Which is the bigger problem. It is blatantly obvious to us, because we're paying more attention in this particular area and happen to know the relationship between ABC and Disney. I don't think a majority of people are asking questions such as, "What is legitimate news about Star Wars? Does legitimate news about Star Wars even exist? Would NBC, CBS, or Fox report on some Ukrainian nut in a Chewbacca costume being arrested? Is any of this important to me?"

Getting more people to ask these types of questions is how movements like GG make lasting impacts. It's the difference between purifying your water source and putting a filter on your faucet.

^Will be the movie event of the year, whichever year it comes out (knowing the fact that they'll want to strike while the iron his hot it'll most likely be within a year, maybe 2 max). Should be able to get a "Best Comedy" Oscar nomination and sweep the Teen's Choice Awards.

When can we expect Anita to release the Feminsist Frequency criticizing the producers for casting Scarlett Johansson, or some other unworldy-attractive star, rather than someone who looks more average or like the real Zoe Quinn?

Actually this could be the best thing that happens to GG.
Most of people is not going to care.
But taking it will portray the concept of ethics, PC Bros and tons of other things, even in a positive light, taking that South Park and Family Guy will have to make their episode to bash this movie, it could backfire in the most massive way ever.

I've been saying from the moment this news came out that it won't affect us.

To the mainstream movie-going public, a random story about some small-time game developer is not going to sell tickets. Nobody wants to see that. Obviously, even if it bombs, the games press is going to lather it up with praise.

I also highly doubt Johanssen is going to play Quinn. This doesn't seem like enough of a big budget film to get her to play the lead, especially considering mega stars like that have enormous acquisition sums (basically just to get them to play in your movie, you have to pay a certain fee to the actor, which is usually decided by their manager, and it's often millions).

Also has Johanssen said anything herself about this film, or was it just the director saying she wanted her as Quinn?

This is getting interesting.

Zoe is writing her memoirs/getting a ghostwriter to write it for her, which means she'll have to sign off on the contents. Zoe being the poster girl for Cluster B personality disorders is going to demand it portray her as a flawless angel and Eron as Cthulhu incarnate. Which means that a defamation lawsuit is now open.

And guess who's interested?

Add in Zoe getting rekt in multiple courts with a lot more to come, and get your popcorn ready folks.

(Assuming the project doesn't get thrown under the bus due to being a horrible, horrible idea.)

Yeah, tbh if Zoe fucking Quinn (of all her 28 years old) can start writing memoirs now, then I should have a fucking biography. At least I've written hundreds of songs, and at least have a degree of popularity in my hometown for my music.

Plus I've been cyberbullied on Twitter, so that counts? Right?

Well someone call me a f@660t once and now i am getting a reality show.

Besides if we are getting a Gamer Gate movie i want it to have Adam Sandler as FullMcIntosh.

5 bucks says this book she's writing is gonna be like the kim Kardashian book, IE a picture book full of screencaps and the content worth of half a cardboard box.

Hello forum mongers of KYM.
I am in need of your assistance.

Long story short, I am pursuing a degree in game design and production. For a recent class assignment, I had to play the infamous "Depression Quest," and then write a review on it. Needless to say, it was an utter travesty, and my review reflected that. I thoroughly rebuked it in a scientific fashion for being the feckless piece of garbage that it is. The same goes for its history, though I did not spend too much time on that.

However, I am a little concerned that this will come back to bite me, despite being as honest and objective, and honestly objective, as possible. I can't tell if my gaming prof is just getting the wrong end of the stick and did his research in the wrong places, or if he listened and believed. Given how progressives tend to react to fact based honesty, I'm a little worried that I may have put a target on my back.

Nothing has been said yet, but I can easily see something happening. It's probably just me worrying and my imagination getting the better of me, but given the pervasiveness of it all, especially in academia, it's likely that I will be made to pay for it in some fashion. I need to be prepared.

SO I need some help compiling a dossier or something on GG, Quinn, Sarkeezian, the games themselves, basically everything because it all connects to one another in some way. I know that this site totally serves as just that, but I have doubts that he would take KnowYourMeme seriously.

I'm not looking to start an argument. If nothing happens, I'm going to let it go. But if something does happen, I need to be able to say, "Give me until tomorrow to get you something," or even just pull out a folder with everything needed to just end it right there. To overwhelmingly defenestrate the whole narrative with the facts.

I would do this myself, but I'm falling behind on other assignments. I cannot spend the time I'd need to do this properly. Also, I would say most of you all know more about this than I do.

Can anyone help me?

I'm also too busy to help compile a GG dossier, but with regards to your situation with the prof:

If he/she is one of those hardline antis, then the best you can do is work hard on your assignments, and if he/she screws with your marks based on politics, you can bring that to your school president and get the prof. in a lot of shit. It's happened before, and the president will not ignore academic dishonesty (from the professor) in the interest of 'feminism' or whatnot.

Do your best to lay low and avoid anything crazy happening to the best of your ability. If shit does go bad with people, then hold your head high and don't let them think they can fuck around with you. There are good people out there who can help you out with your career if people try to sabotage it.

@Dioxin Jimmy
Well, if your written opinion on the game was negative because of other people's negative opinions, then you don't have much to defend yourself with. I have a couple games that critics shat all over initially, but I personally like (Depression Quest isn't one of them).
If in your paper, you presented logical arguments as to why this game isn't very good, I would stand by them. I'm in a gaming enthusiast club, and this game came up in one of our group discussions. I argued that unless there's something substantial to the story, impacting to the player, or even has decent gameplay, it isn't much of a quality game, but rather a glorified choose-your-own-adventure book that you can read and interact with on a computer. It's technically a game, as it has interactive components and "repercussions" for some of your actions. However, a somewhat good analogy would be calling two pieces of bread a sandwich, and having critics rave about it because "it's different than a regular sandwich," and because the critics may have helped pay for the bread.
Now, if you need an actual paper of sorts, with sources and such, I can try and help you, if you want. It might take me a bit of time, but I'll do it if you need it immediately.

I am doing a degree in game design as well. If you are going to full sail, then I had to do it as well. If not I can't be too helpful. I simply removed my mental context of the creator and the game and tried to review it. I did give it some positive points for some mechanics but yea the game was pretty bland and didn't help a lot. I didn't give it a positive review.

I didn't rip it apart to I guess it depends on how you worded it and treated it.
I didn't get points taken away for it, so hopefully everything turns out fine.

That's kind of the thing. I can't get a full read on him. He's been fairly even keeled about everything so far, and as far as the lessons go. You know, like be smarter about designing female characters, make armor built for function and not for looks, bikinis are useless, the logical stuff. And he repeatedly said that as designers of games, it is entirely up to us what we want to make, because there is a market for it.
However, the inclusion of this non-game in the assignment work, not presenting the truth of GG and what it is, and having us watch one of Sarkeezian's pretentiously hateful videos, it has led me to believe that he has drank the Kool-Aid, but I don't know how much.

I have been laying low so far, but I couldn't let that go. These people actually had the audacity to push this meretricious pile as something being above and beyond other games, something with substance, and it had jack squat. And then had the gall to thank me for "being willing to play games that are meant to be something other than simply 'fun.'" I had to put my foot down on it.

Thank you, I will do what I can.

PS: I'm going to Webster.

1. You're being paranoid, and it sounds like your trying to see enemies where really none exist. Your professor is probably trying to cover major events that have occurred within recent gaming, and FF as well as DQ have both been major events in the context of the gaming community and the mainstream medias outlook on it. I went into a political science degree and we had to watch films like Thank You For Smoking, that didn't mean my professors were pro-tobbacco and pro-lobbiest. In my one course on film we watched Birth of a Nation, not because it was good, but because it was one of the first full length films ever made. That doesn't make my professor a goddamn klansmen, it means they know what's relevant to the subject they're talking about.

And yeah, a video series all about game design and the way it portrays female characters that you and I don't agree with, and a game whose very nature caused controversy and debate about what constituted a game, are relevent things to learn about in game design. Don't become like the people you hate and ban material you don't agree with on political grounds for the so called "greater good".

2. Do your own homework. You wrote this review, you should have had sources ready to cite. If you didn't, your gonna have a bad time. If you did, you should already have a dossier ready. Simple as that. No cheating, and no having others doing your work cited page for you in the guise of fighting social tyranny.

@Dioxin Jimmy

Basically what Black Grafic T said. Reviews are mostly a subjective work, given they're based on art (I know some might disagree with this, though), and unless you've pulled things out of your ass regarding the scientific part of the review or have written factual inaccuracies I don't see why he would give you a bad grade only because he disagrees with you from a political standpoint. Unless, of course, he's a Crusader Militant of sort AND a bad teacher, but most people aren't like that.

Best case scenario, this stimulates some serious debate on the topic (something that is extremely rare), worst case scenario, well, basicly what has happened in the last year or so.

@Black Grafic T
Off topic for a second. I'm preeetty sure that Thank You For Smoking isn't a pro-tobacco propaganda movie, but rather a satire of the industry and also of those who oppose it.
