Hope none will remove the previous posts :)

Wow. Congrats for the milestone. 1000 posts among the 60 of us.
But there's still work to be done!

One of them is: the MADs article will DEFINITELY need a complete overhaul (https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/mads)

Some of the older aticles in the Niconico Douga meme collection will also need a major overhaul, this may also apply to articles awaiting confirmation.

Mona, i know you said that we don't really need to mention DeadZone, ScarletZone, exc mini-mads on RedZone entry. But i think we need to. So i will mention all them together in one title:"Other remixes/X zone". If you don't like my addition to the entry, you can delete it afterwards.
I just need to know one thing: What is this 村紗水蜜 project?(or how does that even pronounced?) Nearly all of the redzone remixes inspired from touhou characters as i understand.
Is that some kind of OC sailor touhou character? Because she and her anchor is the background on the deadzone remix.
How ironic, i am a maritime student.

To be honest, I'm almost giving up to improve that MAD entry. That entry is terrible. But there are no good references for MADs that we could use for improvement. In particular, its records and archives before online-video-sharing era are completely nothing since it was a purely illegal and underground culture.

Besides, you might not know that there was another visual creation movement, (parody) flash movies, on the Japanese web from around 2000 to 2005. I think none can make sense of relevant MADs without knowing this. And of course, it's so so difficult to describe it.

> Niconico Douga meme collection

Indeed. Fortunately or unfortunately, (Oto)MAD is now gradually losing its momentum. we have much time to spend to maintain old entries. But I guess all of them will stay in submission forever. It seems KYM wants to confirm entries only that readers can understand easily without studying about other cultures. hahaha.

> Minamitsu Murasa (村紗水蜜)

She is one of the characters in Tohou Project.

Minamitsu Murasa – Touhou Wiki – Characters, games, locations, and more

That's because "DEAD ZONE" is a mere mashup of RED_ZONE and Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship and Captain Murasa. And, both of them are Murasa's theme songs in the 12th title in Tohou series Undefined Fantastic Object. Likewise, "ScarletZone" is a mashup of "RED ZONE" and several Flandre Scarlet's theme songs.

Since it's a quite cheap idea, just blending popular song and popular songs, both of mashups and its base idea didn't spread so much. So, I don't feel any necessity to mention them.

Ok, so I'm doing some research for an entry about the popular Animal Crossing creepypasta Aika Village, and I'm stuck a little. The earliest thing I can find about it is a video by YouTuber LinandKo, but that seems to have been made in response to a pre-existing trend. As the meme is Japanese in origin, I was wondering if you could do some searching to see where exactly the creepypasta was first posted. Thanks :)

The first appearance of Aika Village (アイカ村) was the author's post to a thread for Animal Crossing's dream suite codes in 2channel's /wifi/ (game consoles' online features/services) board. It was posted on December 12th, 2012.

It seems that Aika Village began spreading actually by twitter users sharing playing videos for the village which were posted to YouTube (Dec. 18th) or NND (Dec. 21st). In the description of the latter NND's video, the poster already mentioned "I visited now topical village". So, it seems Aika Village already got much popularity in the end of that December.

Both search results on NND and pixiv and Google Trend say that, here in Japan, Aika Village had been trending from that December to the next March.

In addition to this, Aika Village's author, later called himself Garakku (ガラック), talked about the back story about the making of the Village in the interview by a Japanese game magazine Nintendo Dream published in April 2013. Here is a blog post reporting about this.

In the interview, Garakku said that Aika Village got much inspiration from Niconicori Village (にこにこり村) which was made by Shigesato Itoi, the main creator of Earthbound/Mother series, and Niconicori's concept was similar to the room of Porky in Mother 3. Niconicori was appeared on an interview to Animal Crossing creators uploaded to his official website in April 2009.

Hmm, I haven't seen noteworthy spreading about Dars chocolate in any online communities.
Where did you find it?

Well in the last MMD Cup one of the themes was 'chocolate' (I think) with the start of final submissions hitting on Valentine's days: the chocolates were either a generic heart shaped chocolate boxes or Dars chocolate.
I was mainly just curious because it's something I just noticed after scanning through 700+ videos.

Also, along the same lines, is Creamy Mami popularity resurging in Japan (KYM already has a Magic Girl article)? I think the DVD is getting a release here in the US due to a successful crowd funding campaign.

Got it. That's because Morinaga Milk is one of the sponsors and the juries of this time's MMD Cup. Besides, in addition to the St. Valentine's day you pointed, there are dozens of videos featuring chocolates, especially Morinaga's Dars chocolates, since "Dars" is one of the seven themes in this cup. Of course, it's no doubt that some of them aim to get a jury's special award from Morinaga. HAHAHA.

Anyway, any internet meme-like presence doesn't reflect to those Dars chocolates in MMD videos.

> Creamy Mami

Here in Japan, at least, there are no remarkable changes surrounding Mami though she reached the 30th anniversary in the last year. Indeed, Creamy Mami is one of the classics in magical girl animes. But since it's literally a classic like "Anne of Green Gables", it's rarely set to the subject for today's online users activities.

I don't know much about that cloud founding campaign for Mami in the US. So I'd like to leave it for others to measure its notability as online event or something.

Thanks for the clarification.

Looks like we have a meme to describe.

> Totally Unnoticed Changing Series (lit. X glides to Y)

This is a typical boring fad of silly and non-creative people. NND's search results tells us honestly that happened on February 11th, a vast amount of poor copies by idiots increased explosively, and it died out within the first week.

As you may notice, in contrast to its title, all videos mixes a song to the other forcibly within just 4 notes. This is the only punchline of this series.

Of course, we already have entries for this kind of fads (eg. I don't have anything to give you, so I'll sing you X). So, I don't deny to make an entry for it. But I want to leave this task to others since it's out of my curiosity.

I was just wondering, do you think an entry for the animation studio Kyoto Animation (or even others if they have notable spread) would be a good idea. I was just thinking, I mean their role in moe has garnered them fair bit of popularity, many of their shows have spawned subcultures, and they even have a few memes to do with the company (primarily KyoAni Finds a Way). We have a Ghibli one, so why not them too? Thoughts?

And Free! Besides, 5 spawned subcultures is nothing to sneeze at. Like I said, the company does have a significant following among Otaku.

I second it, but I don't want to see this kind of asking:

"Oh, KYM accepts Kyo-ani's entry! So let's make entries for anime productions companies such as Gainax, GONZO, BONZ, TRIGGER, SUNRISE… (endless)"

"To complete Kyo-ani's collection, Let's meke entries for Hyōka, Tamako Market, Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions and Beyond the Boundary. All of them has lots of noteworthy fanarts with no exception!"

Subculture entries covering too broad range tend to blur the definition of entry of the database. This is one of the reasons why I don't like entries for Studio Ghibli and Disney. So, I think we have to pay attention in making entries of more upper categories.

Last edited Mar 13, 2014 at 06:22AM EDT

I think studios with enough popularity deserve entries, the only other anime studio I'd say might deserve an entry is Gainax, but really that's it. If anyone starts saying those kinds of things, we should really step in to explain.

Though the last episode is still left, NND's search results shows only 30 or so videos of opening parodies.

Besides, Sakura Trick was even unpopular in recent monthly Oto-MAD events in NND. (Jan, Feb and Mar).

It seems this anime couldn't attach to MAD editors curiosity except for Inmufags finding the light in the kisses evoking Yajuu Senpai's "Happy Kiss".

Oh, and don't forget the entry updating!

Here is an idea on how to improve the entry about MADs: Create a "Notable examples" section with one image and summary per MAD meme. I will do this if you don't want to.

For the "Origin" and "Spread" sections, it would be difficult, so I might need someone's assistance for them.

Well done, mona_jpn. I now have courage to repair the entry specifically about MADs. If you want to help, then you are welcome to do so.

Oh, and if you are going to do that, you may need to create a section about "OtoMADs" as well.
(OtoMADs = a type of MAD)

I'm planning to add another entry related to Ichiro. It's not a big nor much enjoyable for non-Japanese speakers, but it's an actual "meme". In other words, Ichiro becomes to have 3 memes ("Laser beam", "I was almost coming" and this).

So, I'd like to propose to split each memes' descriptions in existing Ichiro's entry to new "meme" articles and rebuild the existing entry to a pure "person" entry.

Let me know what you think.

But there is one big problem: I MYSELF HAVE NO INTEREST TO NON-MEME CATEGORIES. Yes, I have no motivation to (re)write his entry, need someone's help to accomplish this idea.

I see you are becoming tiresome, mona_jpn. Me and perhaps someone else will support the Ichiro entry, especially when I am extremely bored. I will also build and expand a parent entry for BEMANI-related memes, all it needs is a Summary, History, and Notable examples sections.

I also would like to support attaching sub-memes to parent entries of MAD, Anime Opening/Ending MADs and beatmania.

Happily, You've got the BEMANI editorship:) But I'm not so positive to add "notable examples" to non-meme articles because it has no bounds. As the editing style guide says, videos in one article are limited into 8 or so. After adding descriptions in the history section and other general descriptions, I'm going to put each song entries under the parent. I think that's enough for the hub entry.

1983parrothead wrote:

Okay. I noticed that concon from BEMANI is becoming kind of widely used as MAD material. Is it becoming a meme?

Hmm…, Yes and No. As shown by NND's search results, concon OtoMADs began at the release of this song in jubeat in the spring of 2011, and died out around the middle of 2012. Its amount isn't so large. I guess we can't hope the further spreading any longer.

For improving BEMANI entry, I'm searching English information for the "Performing Play" on arcades , that is describe in this a MIT researcher's video below.

It would be a great help for me, if you guys know further information about this.

1983parrothead wrote:

You mean combo videos?

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=beatmania+combos

Hmm, slightly different. "Performance Play", also known as "Free Style", refers to playing BEMANI games, mainly DDR, with the players' own performance and choreography. Like this:

Here are some of references for "Performance Play".

Grassroots DDR events that have been held since mid-1990s usually have "Free Style" class to compete Performance Play. Even KONAMI had held the official nationwide DDR competition dedicated to "Free Style" in 1999.

I think the article must have a paragraph for "Performance Play" because this notable subculture in the arcades was born in DDR.

I am quite ignorant about the BEMANI franchise, but I would like to know what I should add to the MAD parent entry, like what are memes that are nothing but MADs? Some like RED_ZONE should be removed from it, because they are more than just MADs.

I basically think it should be done by similar entry tag feature to group entries by its "style". Parent entry feature should be used to group entries by the same "franchise" or "online phenomena".

So I'd like to propose we put every bemani song entries under BEMANI entry by "parent-children" feature.

However, even veteran moderators haven't been able to share the consensus for the usage of those features. So, this is nothing more than my opinion.

1983parrothead wrote:

Ahh, sorry. I think MAD entry doesn't need to be the parent for any kind of entries. Actually, I've removed most of child entries from there. And it's descriptions should focus to its history and technical characteristics.

This is a very delicate case. We shouldn't pick him up just for fun because, as shown by his facial expressions and halting speeches, he's apparently a mentally handicapped, or retarded, person.

Anyway, he became to a new icon among Inmufags by trolls re-uploading his food review videos from his YouTube channel in around the end of March 2014. His catchphrase given from Inmufangs, OC (Oh C), comes from his clumsy speech of Oishii (美味しい, lit. "Yummy").

As you know, he will continue being mocked at by them relentlessly forever as well as Inmu actors or Cookie voice actresses. It's the very shameful side of the Japanese internet.
