@ Cute Master:

Oh my. What a twist.

@ Platus:

That non-pony gif reminds me of "Iron Horse, Iron Terror" stage from Darkstalkers 3, which is a stage with a train in the background. The train has multiple mouths which move throughout the fight.

Oooh, I like. But it's actually from this Samuel Beckett play, "Not I":

(realizes my previous post has a thumbs down)

Oh. I chose…poorly. All right. Here's something pony-related for you:

I read two fanfics written by the same guy who wrote the "Evil Belle" series: <a href = "http://www.fimfiction.net/story/184633/the-great-muffin-war"> "The Great Muffin War" and <a href = "http://www.fimfiction.net/story/163757/the-epic-battle-of-good-versus-slightly-less-good-but-still-pretty-good-in-the-long-run">"The Epic Battle of Good vs. Slightly Less Good But Still Pretty Good in the Long Run". I enjoyed reading both of them, and the latter of the two fanfics I have read is soooooooooooooooo cute and adorable that I'm putting it on my "Favorite MLP Fanfics I read" list. And it's going to be very high on the list (probably around Top 5).

@ Blue Screen:

Gotcha. I had no idea what I was thinking when I was posting something. I guess I forgot that this was an MLP Thread.

Edit: All right. Here's some muffin horse for you guys.

What's the deal with all these horses, anyway?

<div class=spoiler title="Oh, and hey…">

Are we allowed to talk about the movie now?
Have we waited long enough now?

For realsies, guys…

Whoa. I just realized that the author of the fanfic <a href = "http://www.fimfiction.net/story/21481/know-your-mare">"Know Your Mare" has completed his story a few days ago. The fanfic's first chapter was written on July 3rd, 2012, and the last one was written on Nov. 1st, 2014. The story has 212 short chapters.

I think when I have a ton of free time, I'm going to read the fanfic from start to finish. I don't normally read long fanfics (I prefer reading fanfics that are really short and worth less than 5000 words), but I'm definitely interested in seeing how the completed version of the fanfic is like.

We can talk about the movie. I'm sure all of us had plenty of time to illegally download it watch it though legal means.

I liked it. It was way better than the first Equestria girls movie. It had a lot of funny moments. It hardly pissed me off. The songs were pretty forgettable, but were still better than the songs in the first movie. Rainbow Rocks is a movie I would want to watch again soon.

Sonata horse

Much more background ponies made appearances in this one. We had Tavi, Maud, Trixie (I know she was in the last one but she had a more prominent role this time), Lyra, and Vinyl (same case as Trixie). I'm sure after this movie most Twilight fans are relieved that Flash Sentry wasn't so much rubbed into their faces. I really enjoyed Sunset Shimmer. Thought Rarity's hipster costume was super adorable. And Human Pinkie has now seen the world of pone. Overall, it was very enjoyable to watch and in many ways better than the original.

Go for it, dude. Start the topic

Oh!
You want me to start it?
Uh…

I'm no good at starting topics!

(Actually, I was more just asking if EQG2 has been out long enough that everyone was okay with no longer using the spoiler tags and such. There are some things to talk about, but I wanted to know how we think it should be done.)

Until a consensus is reached, I'll just keep it general: What was everyone's thoughts on the fandom nods/'pandering'?
For me, I'm not usually one to mind that kind of stuff (and I frequently enjoy it quite a bit), but EQG2 honestly felt like it was overdoing it a bit.
I think any individual scene would have been fine on its own, but with so many of them in such close proximity… it just felt a little odd to me.
I think I try to imagine what it would be like for someone who knew nothing of the fandom to watch the movie and from that viewpoint, I feel certain scenes would just be very weird and confusing to them.
Then again, I've seen little seven-year-old girls asking Tabitha St. Germaine if Derpy is going to talk again so maybe I have no idea how ubiquitous the 'background characters' really are.

Completely inadvertently, I just realized that I have eaten tacos on the last two Tuesdays.

Livin' the dream.

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to get back to my endless quest to catch myself a real Scootaloo.

I think I have a pretty good shot with this idea!

I'm perfectly fine with unspoilered Rainbow Rocks spoilers. But then again, I did go and watch a cam-rip the day it came out, so . . . .

What's interesting to me "fan pandering"-wise is that it seems to show up way more often, and with much greater prominence, in the comics than in the show. I don't know if it's just because there's fewer hands involved in the comic, or because it isn't the "face" of the franchise, or what, but it's also interesting that the inevitable, pointless "pandering" cries seem more muted towards the comic than the show as well.

Also, I wonder – now that the sirens can't get food from their crystals anymore, are they just going to starve to death?

It's likely because the comics are more obscure than the show, and are generally more geared towards the older side of the fandom. Remember, the main place they're sold is Hot Topic.

Personally, I don't mind the pandering. Anything that gives Vinyl a major-ish role is fine in my book.

I got my blu-ray and watched the commentary the other day. It was pretty funny, but nothing too spoiler-ish or notable. The funny part they kept bringing up was the "Taco Tuesday gas" that kept appearing when the Dazzlings were around.

Guess those tacos didn't set too well with anybody.

They talked some about the shading and points of view that went into the movie. This came up when they were talking about when everyone was sitting around the statue and again during the ending Dazzlings' song (which had like 200 layers apparently) when they were coming out of the smoke.

(Not the same scene, but I loved this.)

Also, they said they'd really like to see an actual transforming version of the DJ P0N-3 car. Doubt it will ever happen, but Hasbro making transformers x ponies toys might be aw3s0me. I might actually buy it if they ever did decide to make one.

Lastly, they did do a whole bunch of "OOOOOOH! OHHH! I WONDER WHAT THIS COULD BE!?!?!" at the easter egg. Can't wait.

You didn't think I was done posting un-spoilered equestria girls, did you? No! I still NEED to post more!

So when I saw the Crusaders were in this film, I was kinda hoping we'd get a song or even some lines, but I think Apple Bloom was the only one to get a line, and it was just one line. At least they did get a spot in the montage sequence.

Edit: Now that I think about it, they did say some stuff did have to get cut for time. We heard a partial song from Trixie's band, but they mentioned it got cut for time and the full version is on the soundtrack.

Does anyone know if a NSFW edit of this scene exist? If not, this needs to happen. It would be for great lulz. I bet it could fit well into a collab or something.

Waifu dancing. Feel free to interrupt me at any point.

Lastly, I guess I'll finish with taco tuesday. I almost want to make an entry page on it. If not for ponies, then for movies maybe? I know it was in Lego Movie, Equestria Girls, and recently in the Book of Life. Taco Tuesday is a pretty popular maymay, no?

If not, then the teleporter thing definitely is.

I'm totally okay with the unspoilered Rainbow Rocks posts. I've seen enough pics and read the synopsis to see how it is like.

Also, <a href = "http://www.fimfiction.net/story/225402/princess-changeling-rainbow-magic-pants">"Princess Changeling Rainbow Magic Pants" story has been updated with another chapter. Her next victim is Fluttershy, and it was not a pleasant moment for the poor pegasus.

Chapter 3 has Magic Pants visit the Element of Kindness, AKA Fluttershy. Applejack and Twilight reach Fluttershy before Magic Pants does. Applejack tells her to cover her eyes, and Fluttershy complies. After Magic Pants arrives, Twilight convinces Applejack that Fluttershy will not throw up like the others did, since Fluttershy has great experience with animals. They tell Fluttershy to look at Magic Pants to see how both of them would interact with each other. The weird hybrid creature greets her. Fluttershy is so grossed over by Magic Pants' presence and throws up…A LOT. Twilight and Applejack leave Fluttershy to meet up with Pinkie Pie while leaving Fluttershy behind (who is still throwing up).

Weird fanfic, but I got plenty of laughs in the chapter.

@Platus

(Been a while since my last wall 'o words. Good times…)

I tend to think of the comics in a pretty different light than the show, I guess.
Like, the show was designed for little girls and other demographics enjoy it too, whereas it seems pretty clear that the comics were not intended to be that way.
The comics came about specifically because of the fandom so having a few more nods there makes some sense.

At the same time, I don't think the comics really do all that much 'pandering' per se, as they tend more toward referencing other shows, movies, memes, and characters and not so much the fandom's own internal stuff.
I guess that can be a form of pandering to general cultural trends, but eh…
The comics are already much more stylistic and have a lot fewer rules tying them down that it is fun to see them play around a bit more.

And to be clear, I absolutely have no problem with a lot of the 'pandering' in EQG2.
Derpy, Octavia, Lyra/Bon were all great little add-ons that made sense in their scenes.
The ones that got me specifically were Maud and Vinyl.

Maud's scene just felt entirely superfluous to me, funny as it was.
I love the character, sure, but there was really no reason for her to have been in there other than the writers knowing she would be a big crowd-pleaser.
She didn't do anything to effect the story and was just a one time gag without much context or follow up.

As for Vinyl, I too would love seeing her move into a more prominent role, but the Deus Ex DJ here just felt too forced.
She had absolutely no role in the movie prior to the last five minutes.
No other characters even seemed to acknowledge her existence.
She did appear in a number of background shots, I assume as a way of 'foreshadowing,' but no one who wasn't already looking for her would have really noticed.
Before this movie, Vinyl had had less than two minutes of screen time, minimal direct acknowledgment, and no real personality so her sudden inclusion as a critical plot point in this instance would have been completely out of left field for anyone not aware of her popularity in the fandom.

And she also compromises a bit of the interesting conflict of the movie at the same time.
One of the cool character decisions that I liked was the idea of Sunset still being an outsider among the main six and trying to find her place with them.
The Dazzlings use that insecurity against her when they ask why she hasn't been invited to be in the band, and it is meant to be a big, triumphant moment when she finally throws off her jacket and grabs the mic at the end.
It's just undercut a little for me because moments before Sunset's emergence, Vinyl just shows up in her transformo-car and lays down the backing track for the entire final battle.
Sunset's character conflict is exemplified by her desire to join the band and Vinyl rolls right in and just does it without saying a word.
Sunset has to go through a long process of redemption, but Vinyl just has to unlock a door and she's in?
Just felt weird…

All that said, the movie was pretty good so don't take it that I'm not a fan.
Much better than the first and lots of great little character moments, those were just a couple little issues that got to me.

@The Future of the Dazzlings
I don't think I've seen anyone else posit this theory (though I admit I haven't really looked), but the end of the movie made me think that The Dazzlings were not really the sirens themselves, but rather victims of a magical parasite-mind-control-type-thing.
In other words, I think that Aria, Sonata, and Adagio were just three normal girls in the EQG world when the ancient sirens were banished through the portal.
Upon entering this new world, their crazy Equestrian magic was harnessed inside those crystals and they had just enough latent energy to essentially brainwash and take over the bodies of our three villains.
That is why the siren forms emerged from the crystals in the final battle rather than the girls actually transforming into them themselves, and why I think their destruction will have no lasting harm to them.
Like it was said, they will just go back to being normal girls now that the Equestrian demons have been exorcised from them.

@Cute Master
Oh, I totally forgot that the DVDs have commentary tracks.
I always love those kinds of things so that makes picking up a legit copy much more intriguing, especially if they are sitting there making fart jokes the whole time.
Ha!

For animation stuff, I did distinctly notice the effect they did with hands a few times:

Seems like a simple but effective way to give these 2D characters a little more depth and I like it.

@CMCs
You and me both, brother.
As one who was obviously hoping for more CMC involvement, I can confirm that Apple Bloom was the only one to have any lines at all.
I suspect there was a cut scene with them and Clair Corlett is listed in the credits for Sweetie Belle despite never speaking, but Scootaloo didn't even get that far.
Whatever Sweetie line got cut, it wasn't a full CMC song or anything substantial like that unfortunately.
Guess we'll just have to settle for them looking totally badass in their rocker outfits.

"Parrot, what are you doing?"
"I don't know; I just got this sudden urge to join the Navy."
"Don't you realize you're being brainwashed?"
"Yeah, probably."

I've realized that I've been posting MLP fanfic stuff on this board a lot. I think it's because I've been reading a lot of them and have been enjoying them. They're mostly comedy and random stuff, though. I don't like reading sad or scary fanfics or stories containing sexual stuff in it.

Also, I checked Equestria Daily today and found out that one of the fanfics I've read last month was featured on that site. <a href = "http://www.equestriadaily.com/2014/11/story-unicorn-horns-are-made-of-candy.html">Guess which one it was?

This actually looks like a funny fanfic.

Not one I really approve of but nevertheless just a joke, the thread never got C&D'd (And I can only hope that'll never ever happen…).

I don't post here often, but when I do its usually a sketch isn't it?

… After finally finding some free time… I managed to "finish" sketching out the panel I was having problems figuring out the perspective of last time.

… Which leaves 6 more.

Are we still discussing the movie? Cause I wanna do that.

MORE UNSPOILERED SPOILERS BELOW

I liked seeing background characters put in the movie. It was probably my favorite part. I guess the only thing I liked better than that was Sunset Shimmer. Reformed Sunset Shimmer is best Sunset Shimmer. It's hard to make a character that was liked by few people and then turn her into a character that's loved by many. So I liked Sunset Shimmer better in Rainbow Rocks, but what about Brad Sentry? To be honest, I forgot he was in this movie. He had very little character in the first movie and in this one he's just kinda there. Every time he shows up it's like "Hey guys! Remember me? I still exist!"

@Dazzlings just being girls under mind control?

I don't think that was the case. They were banished over a thousand years ago.

I think they just lost all their magic. What are they up to now? They didn't beg for forgiveness just like Sunset Shimmer at the end of the first movie, so I'm gonna assume that they are still evil and they moved on to a life of crime and murder.

@After the credits ending

So it's confirmed that Twilight has a human counterpart. Does that mean Sunset Shimmer also has a human counterpart? If so, where is she? Those are questions that have been asked since the first movie but I have another question. Just how old are Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna? Are they also over a thousand years old? Cause that would be kinda awesome.

". . . so I’m gonna assume that they are still evil and they moved on to a life of crime and murder."

Calling it right now: in the next movie, all three of them have become cannibals. But, like, respectable, fancy cannibals. Cannibal foodies.

"Are they also over a thousand years old? Cause that would be kinda awesome."

And now I'm imagining what it would be like to be a high school principal for over a thousand years. I think this video pretty much encapsulates it:

Platus wrote:

So basically they become the White Glove Society?

Damn. Someone should write a fic about that.

Yes! I finally finished reading <a href = "http://www.fimfiction.net/story/21481/know-your-mare">"Know Your Mare". I must say, I love how the story started off as a simple parody of the "Know Your Stars" skit and evolved into a fanfic where the other characters started to join and form a bond with each other. I laughed a lot, I raged a lot (when the hosts went too far with the insults), and I sighed when I realized that the story was ending when I reached the final chapters.

SPOILER ALERT

The fanfic started off with Discord as the host (this is also revealed in the flash animations, BTW) poking fun and trolling the heck out of the guests of the show. Later events include:

-Chrysalis as a co-host, but she's ruthless and shows no mercy to guests.
-Pipsqueak as the third host. He's participating in the show for his school project. He loves to joke around and pokes fun at guest stars. He gets a Crowning Moment of Awesome when he takes down other fillies and colts by himself.
-The hosts move to another place to upgrade their set. Chrysalis destroys it later in the story, and the hosts are replaced by some unknown and crappy hosts until Discord, Chrysalis, and Pipsqueak returns and kicks them out.
-OCs from other fanfics (including Nyx from "Past Sins") and from the fanfic's fans appear and gets owned by the hosts.
-The author's OC appears and gets owned by the ponies who were made fun of throughout the fanfic.
-Nearly all of the ponies get owned by the hosts at least once. In the newest stage the hosts have made, they put contraptions hidden in the studio to play around with the guests. Contraptions include a giant water hose to douse the guests, a cannon to launch them out of the building (and to a presumably safe area), and a trapdoor to pull guests beneath the stage. Twilight Sparkle gets owned the most amount of times in the fanfic.
-The hosts even get owned themselves as well. Chrysalis gets insulted by Discord and Pipsqueak when she goes too far with her insults.
-The author puts tons of song references in the fanfic. Keep an eye out for those references if you want to read the story.
-When the hosts do not make fun of other ponies, they have conversations with each other about themselves. They even celebrate holidays, sing a few songs, and eat this funky little food called riceicles.

The fanfic was supposed to end at chapter 130, with Pipsqueak turning in his finished project report to Cheerilee, but the author kept on adding more chapters. The "2nd half" of the fanfic starts off with several "lost episodes", which shows the episodes that were never written or released earlier in the fanfic. Later, Discord revives the studio and adds Sunset Shimmer (in her pony form, of course) to his crew, who is ruthless like Chrysalis and wants to hurt others ponies' feelings.

The 2nd half of the fanfic focuses more on Discord, Chrysalis, Pipsqueak, and Sunset's bond with each other than the show itself. While Discord and Chrysalis (the "father" and "mother" of the group) go on a weird trip to another world and get engaged (blame Discord for that), Pipsqueak and Sunset (the "son" and the "daughter" of the group) form a sibling-like bond while preparing for Discord and Chrysalis's wedding. I found this part to be interesting, since I loved how the author focused on the characters than the show itself.

The final ten chapters of the fanfic (or eleven, since the last one is broken up into two parts) has the hosts making fun of Twilight Sparkle (AGAIN) and various characters upon the audience's requests. The hosts act more like family now, since they have been together for a long time and formed a great bond with one another. They sing their final song to the audience and go out for riceicles after their final episode.

END OF SPOILERS

The author, Overlord-Flinx, has written side fanfics to "Know Your Mare". I have not read them, but they describe specific events that occurred in the events of "Know Your Mare" in a much longer format.

My brain feels exhausted after reading the fanfic. I loved "Know Your Mare", but I think I'll stick to reading much shorter fanfics from now on, until I decide to read a super-long fanfic again.

I'm… Kind of surprised I got three upvotes so quickly on that last sketch I made.

Well, since this thread seems to be moving slowly… I may as well post more sketches… This time a more hastily drawn concept art for what I'm calling "Valkyries".

Oh no guys, I think I have a problem. I've watched Equestria Girls 3 times this weekend. I haven't determined a favorite song yet, but that ending credits "Shine Like Rainbows" is probably up there. I keep looping it.

Also, Pinkie keeps breaking physics. This time not even light is safe.
