What was this strange dislike bombing????

Either the posts weren't liked by some people or someone created an account to downvote forum posts just because. There have been issues with users who went on a downvote spree against people they don't like, so that may be the case.

I have a question, is it normal to revive downvotes in old (or slightly old) posts? Because I have 19 downvotes that i don't know where they came from.

Porn uploading and downvote bombing…. again.

I've got a feeling that some salty ex-mod is behind this… again.

I think it's related in a way, but someone went through and downvoted almost all the recent posts in the Advertising Accounts forum.

As a quick note, is there any way to lock the voting in that thread? Nobody really needs karma for making a post to flag a bot account. If anything, a correct and proper flagging deserves positive karma.

At this point, I think we should start putting karma voting restrictions for new accounts. It seems to me that these guy(s) are persistent and determined to downvote things for some reason.

I might as well clarify that the issue is going on in other Help forums, as many of the recent posts on them have inexplicable downvotes.

I still stand by my previous idea, but I'd expand it to the ones like Image Cleaning, Video Cleaning, and similar forums.

The problem with that idea is they could just simply downvote another thread unless the entire forums is completely karma locked.

Like I said before, a better and simpler option is just to simply apply a temporary karma voting restriction for new accounts. Or even better, add a forum post requirement before they can rate. That way, it will reduce the amount of mass downvoting incidents.

see i think that recent downvote bomber had the account going for sometime now when i checked out an account with nearly 200 downvotes and no upvotes, couple months i think. whoever might be tickling your pickles probably planned ahead with a lot of alts.

or maybe i'm seeing things again, wouldn't be the first time heh

Not sure this is entirely relevant, but entire user profile comments sections have been downvote-bombed in the past, mine among them.

I also assume this is why the voting timer is now 8 seconds instead of 5? Surely, there must be less intrusive solutions available?

Q: What was this strange dislike bombing????

A: Either an alternate account or a bot is downvoting random posts for an indeterminate reason, and has been/will be banned within an hour or two. Ignore it.

But really, I understand being downvoted for seemingly no feels unfair, but dredging up another weeks-old thread to essentially complain about your karma scores is arguably more detrimental to the site that whatever the "downvote bombers" are doing. I'm glad to see people are invested in this discussion, but scattering it across these different threads is just creating isolated "I got downvoted so Karma is EVIL!!!1!11!1!11!" circlejerks with nothing constructive. That kind of mindless drivel belongs in Serious Debate.

If you're really so inclined to head to the forums every time you're downvoted, here's a list of just some of the other threads I'd suggest reading first. Before you decide not to post. Literally every idea put forth in this thread has been previously mentioned, discussed, and generally regurgitated back into this board before you decided to.

Bonus round:

Now all of that was just for appearances, because we all know anyone who posts about karma doesn't have the patience to read other people's posts. So I'll settle for a compromise that hopefully gets you all some closure without being a clot upon the Maintenance board.

Meet MomRivers. She is a moderator on KnowYourMeme. This means she cares about you. Yes you, the user, and wants your experience to be as fantastic as possible. You can click that image to go directly to her contact page, where she is always ready and willing to listen to any issues regarding the karma system. Whenever you want. Forever.

And just to be arrogant prove a point, here's the other thread in which I had to list the threads, each of which leads to more threads about the same recycled "discussion" about karma. Because if Epyc is good for anything, it's proving a point. Can we stop doing this now?

Check out this thread for a little more history into the vote timer. Yes, it's a bit intrusive having a pop-up every time you vote too quickly, but the alternatives all involve major overhaul on a system that the site barely needs and can barely support anyways. So yes, there less intrusive solutions, but this doesn't necessarily make them better. Talk to James if you find it super important that this be changed, because as of right now, the majority of the feedback for the karma system is just what you see above.

None of us are going "KARMA IS EVIL!!!!11111" though right now. We're just wondering how we can stop the downvote bombers because they are annoying, we're not suggesting to get rid of the Karma system completely because that's just dumb. Also I do think it is an actual person doing it and not a bot considering that there's a person who has uploaded straight up porn (NC type of porn not NSFW art) ever since 6 months ago at least and he stated that he was also the guy who downvoted karma threads.

The only thing I'm curious about is why is he downvoting the "Report Problems" sub-forum and not any of the other forums.
