10 Minutes Later: "Me And The Bestie" refers to an exploitable comparison format showing an image of Squidward with crossed arms on the left alongside the text "bitches be like can't stand her fake ass" beside an image of SpongeBob and Patrick smiling together on the right alongside the text "*10 minutes later* me and the bestie." The meme is used to joke about hidden feelings that people harbor towards others and people that lie and say one thing about someone or a group behind their back and another to their face. It was first uploaded to Twitter in 2013, and became notably popular between 2019 and 2021.

Origin

On November 18th, 2013, Twitter^[1] user @CauseWereGuys posted "Bitches be like…" along with an image showing Squidward Tentacles looking grumpy at the left with text on top and bottom of him reading "bitches be like can't stand her fake ass," and SpongeBob and Patrick smiling in a photo together on the right with top and bottom text reading "*10 minutes later* me and the bestie," gaining over 2,300 likes and 3,000 retweets in eight years (shown below). This is the earliest known upload of the meme.

Spread

The meme started to see increased spread around 2019, resulting in a number of photoshops changing the context of the original. In 2020, these photoshops increased. For example, on July 12th, Instagram^[2] page edgywhitememes posted a version of the meme referencing SuperMega, gaining over 600 likes in just over a year (shown below, left). On July 14th, Instagram^[3] page acpcutie posted a version referencing Animal Crossing, gaining over 9,600 likes in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).

The format became increasingly popular in mid-to-late 2021. On May 2nd, 2021, Instagram^[7] user boomer.jim posted a version of the meme referencing David Dobrik's tendency to give away Teslas, gaining over 32,000 likes in five months (shown below).

On August 20th, Twitter^[4] user @succubused posted a version of the meme referencing Genshin Impact's update 2.1 art, gaining over 9,500 likes and 1,700 retweets in just under two months (shown below, left). The image was reposted to Instagram^[5] page genshin.era on August 22nd, gaining over 42,000 likes in just under two months. On September 13th, Instagram^[6] page oldrowofficial posted a version of the meme criticizing Andrea Ocasio-Cortez' Met Gala 2021 dress, gaining over 60,000 likes in under a month (shown below, right).
